ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY:
We are currently looking for a Junior Associate to join our Capital Markets Communications team in our Chicago office. The Junior Associate will primarily support team members in the execution of Capital Markets Communications consulting programs and, by doing so, will learn the necessary subjects and processes to service and advise clients. The individual will conduct research for ongoing consulting projects and converse with junior members of the investment community when required for research or to obtain occasional feedback, if appropriate. A Junior Associate must keep up-to-date on key issues and current events for their clients, as well as generally in the financial markets and relevant industries.

PRIMARY DUTIES:
For Clients:
Have a thorough understanding of each client’s business and investment thesis

Be able to obtain detailed feedback from institutional investors and work with senior team members to translate the commentary into useful advice for clients

Draft client materials such as press releases and presentations under the direction of senior team members

Handle the logistics surrounding the distribution of press releases, set up of earnings conference calls and webcasts, etc.

Perform detailed and accurate research to underpin all client projects and deliverables

Assist team members in helping clients develop corporate messages and position themselves to relevant stakeholder groups

Incorporate both quantitative and qualitative analysis and work with senior team members to make recommendations for companies’ messaging and investor outreach strategies

Monitor, research and report on broad financial markets, industry trends, peer companies, client stock movements and media coverage

Have a firm understanding of each client’s shareholder base and sell-side analyst coverage

Complete targeting processes and set up institutional investor meetings for clients

Contribute to the development of a strategic plan for clients’ overall investor relations programs

Help research best practice policies and programs

For Strategic Communications:
Work within Strategic Communications Capital Markets Communications Practice network and utilize resources to leverage prior relevant work for new projects that arise

Continuously build out the Capital Markets Communications Practice’s market intelligence function

Assist Capital Markets Communications Practice leaders to advance Strategic Communications standing in the field of Investor Relations

For New Business:
Provide tactical support to team members as needed, including conducting research for new business pitches, etc

Work with colleagues to produce new business pitch materials

ADDITIONAL TASKS:
Efficiently utilize reference tools including Capital IQ, Bloomberg and Factiva

Keep up to date with major stock market, business, economic and regulatory news via major business publications (e.g. WSJ )

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in one of the following areas: Finance, Business, Economics, Mathematics, Communications or related field

1 - 2 years experience within finance, consulting, financial services, investor relations, corporate communications, asset management, economic research, data analysis; relevant internships may also be taken into consideration

Strong quantitative and qualitative research skills

Excellent written and oral presentation skills

Ability to learn new concepts quickly and possess a service-oriented attitude

Developed ability to multi-task

Ability to take constructive criticism well and learn from it

Demonstrated accuracy and attention to detail

Ability to stay well organized, manage time effectively and meet deadlines

Proficient computer skills

Strong quantitative and qualitative research skills

PREFERRED SKILLS:
Ability to recognize, explore and use a broad range of ideas and practices, thinking logically and creatively without influence from personal bias

Ability to adjust behavior to establish positive relationships with a wide variety of individuals

Ability to manage priorities between multiple client assignments
