The person in this position is responsible for assisting in the inspection, repair, testing, and adjusting of mechanical equipment and systems in a power plant. They will also assist in performing, and perform preventative maintenance as scheduled and corrective maintenance when required.
Responsibilities, include, but not limited to:
Responsible for safe and efficient operation of the machine shop and weld shop
Conduct repair and perform preventative maintenance on all plant equipment
Housekeeping of those areas assigned to the maintenance department
Assist in maintaining sufficient inventory on necessary materials, including responsibility for inventory of tools.
Train to learn mechanic level responsibilities of maintaining the power plant
Ensure tasks are completed in a timely manner.
Work with and support operations in safety programs, i.e., lock out tag out, Hot work, and line breaking
Oversee mechanical inventory monthly checks as assigned.
Timely completion of position related special projects as deemed appropriate and assigned by the Lead Mechanic, Maintenance Supervisor, or Plant Manager
Will support regional Maintenance activities as needed
Work with and support operations in safety programs, ie, lock out tag out, Hot work, and line breaking
High School Diploma Required
0-2 years experience
Must have a strong aptitude towards safety.
Ability to prioritize workload to meet deadlines.
Strong mechanical aptitude a plus.
Welding and fabrication skills a plus.
Ability to read, or learn to read detailed drawings and equipment blue prints.
Willingness to stay late, and, or start early. To ensure all work is complete.
Must be detail oriented and organized.
Ability to operate and qualify to operate Heavy Machinery, i.e. Forklift, Manlift, Boom Truck, Water Truck. Class A driver’s license a plus.
The ability to use all required PPE required for the position.
Working knowledge of computer programs such as Microsoft office.
Excellent communications and interpersonal skills required.
Must be able to travel as needed.
Physical Activities: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs and ladders; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk, hear, or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Mental Functions: Comparing, copying, calculating, compiling, analyzing, coordinating, communicating, instructing, and interpersonal skills.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. This could include, working in extreme heat or extreme cold conditions.
The noise level in the environment is usually loud and requires the use of PPE.
