The

Hartford Financial Products (HFP) Middle Market Executive Liability Regional Sales & Underwriting Manager

is responsible for the sales, marketing, profit, growth and quality of private company D&O, EPL, Fiduciary, Crime, and K&R product lines for the

KC/STL

Territory of MMEL field operations.

The Hartford Financial Products Sales & Underwriting Manager directs the execution of the HFP Strategic and Operating Plans within the local market territory through strong agency/territorial management, sales coaching, sales activity, risk selection and evaluation, pricing/program recommendations and leading a high performance team focused on achievement, commitment and innovation.

The Hartford Financial Products Sales & Underwriting Manager is ultimately accountable for having broad product portfolio oversight in his/her territory and deep understanding of local markets and competitors.

Responsibilities:
Agency Sales/Territory Management

Build strong, distinctive strategic partnerships with key agents and brokers.

Develop and implement segment sales plans.

Keen insight into competitors' strengths, weaknesses and strategies to leverage for profitable business and increased agency penetration.

People Leadership and Development

Attracts, selects and develops high caliber talent from within or outside of the organization.

Ensures staff continuity for key positions by anticipating and planning for future staffing needs.

Effectively manages staff through active performance management, implementation of a meaningful development process; builds a strong team which fosters collaboration, open dialogue and involves them in critical decision making and planning activities. Facilitates the cross-training of underwriting staff.

Underwriting Operations

Ensures that underwriting practices and guidelines are understood and adhered to specifically focusing upon pricing, risk selection, mix of business, flow and transactional management and quality analysis.

Utilize QA and referral programs to identify opportunities to develop staff to ensure functional and regulatory integrity of the book of business and overall compliance with HFP segment guidelines.

Planning and Monitoring Results

Works closely with Division, Regional and Segment management to develop strategic and operating plans, which leverage agent/broker relationships and positions The Hartford to profitably grow within the territory.

Closely manages plan results and directs implementation of specific actions to address financial shortfalls.

Portfolio Management

Focuses sales activities from a "big picture" or book of business perspective.

Works with Business Center counterparts to consistently assess book trends and develop actions to address potential negative and positive impacts.

Identifies profitable versus unprofitable agents within territory and identifies negative profit trends in the books of unprofitable agents.

Utilizes the Producer Evaluation Document to detail profit issues, financial impact, action plan and rationale and meets with producers to communicate action plan and consequences. Manages, follows up, and reports out on action plan initiatives

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:
BS degree strongly preferred. Advanced degree or CPCU, RPLU, IIA or CIC a strong plus.

Minimum 5+ years of direct product underwriting experience with any ability to handle technical underwriting issues in multiple product areas -D&O, EPLI, Fiduciary, Crime, and K&R,

Demonstrates an understanding of financial risk and financial underwriting. Understands balance sheets, letters of credit, trusts and funds held accounts for prefunds.

Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite with the ability to learn internal Customer & Agency Account Management systems.

Ability to travel 20-30% of the time (Occasional overnight travel)
