Implements the Language Arts program and educational activities of the classroom. Receives
general supervision from the building principal and technical supervision from the instructional supervisor
of language arts.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Works with instructional supervisor to implement, strengthen, improve program.
Keeps informed of new developments in curriculum, instruction methods.
Implements new and established programs.
Provides students with diversified learning activities.
Helps interpret the curriculum to parents.
Teaches students good study habits.
Promotes positive self-concept in each student; provides encouragement to each student to
develop his or her full potential.
Understands social and emotional adjustments of students.
Promotes student awareness and respect for different cultures.
Creates appropriate learning atmosphere in classroom; maintains classroom order.
Maintains student attendance and tardiness records.
Makes evaluation reports upon request.
Maintains records of individual students' progress through assignments, quizzes and projects.
Keeps inventory of materials, equipment and supplies.
Maintains contact with parents, guidance personnel as needed to evaluate students' academic and social growth.
Takes initiative to work cooperatively with other school departments; shares ideas among faculty members and administration.
Participates as appropriate in school-community affairs.

Works in the interest of the students' physical and emotional welfare.
Accepts and incorporates suggestions for classroom improvement.
Participates in professional growth by attending workshops, taking courses, reading new literature, observing other teachers, attending in-service training meetings.
Assists in determining on going budgetary needs of department
Performs related duties as required
or English 7-12. Teacher must be Highly Qualified under No Child Left Behind.
Strong background in fiction and non-fiction.
Familiar with the Writing Process.
Experience working with middle school students.
Successful experience working with a
diverse student population.
Knowledge of team concept.
Knowledgeable about reading and writing strategies; knowledgeable about the CAPT and CMT; able to design curriculum.
Experience with Readers and Writers Workshop model.
Fluency in Spanish is an asset.
