Required Qualifications: A valid New York State License in Practical Nursing. Four years full time experience in a medical specialty field with a demonstrated working knowledge of many procedures under a variety of work conditions including strict deadlines and emergencies. Strong communication skills, ability to maintain patient confidentiality, multitask, have ability to handle high volume patient flow. Must be able to accurately record patient vital signs and conditions. Must be able to work nights (up to 8 p.m.), early mornings (7:30am start) and/or weekends when needed. Must be able to travel to other Department of Surgery clinic locations.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience in an outpatient surgical environment, clinic/hospital setting, Experience in EKG's, sterile technique, and assisting with minor surgical procedures.
Brief Description of Duties: The LPN will provide support and/or assist with patient care in the Department of Surgery/ENT. The selected candidate will:
- Escort patients to exam room, perform and record vital signs, and document reason for visit. Administer medication under physician orders.
- Prepare lab work, collect specimens and send to lab.
- Assist with setup/preparation of patient and equipment for specialized procedures performed by healthcare professionals: fine needle aspirations, wound dressings, biopsies, scopes, etc.
- Stock and maintain examination rooms. Empty rooms of soiled materials after each patient, according to policy.
- Input orders, answer phones, schedule appointments.
Other Duties: Perform additional patient care related duties as assigned by supervisor, for example maintaining logs for code cart, accucheck, etc.
Special Notes: This is a full time position, 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously. FLSA Nonexempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. *This position is located at Tech Park, East Setauket, NY. Night and weekend work is required.
