The Laboratory Support Technician receives bulk samples and maintains the chain of custody thoughout the sample preparation process. Processes bulk samples for extraction and testing. Disposes of samples according to standard operating procedures. Cleans laboratory glassware.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Performs routine homogenization on matrices using various equipment including but not limited to the Hobart grinder, disintegrator, Robot Coupes, miter saw and composter.
Performs routine tasks for calibration of balances and pH meters.
Autoclaves applicable matrices for the pesticide lab.
Notifies supervisor of any issues with condition of the samples, labeling or other issues.
Ensures all current standard operating procedures, Good Laboratory Practices and compliance with appropriate county, state and/or federal regulations for quarantined matrices and/or genetically altered crops are followed.
Maintains accurate and legible required documentation.
Assists in unloading the ACDS trucks or other delivery services and stacking the boxes into the freezers.
Responsible for completing sample requests, retrieval and return of samples from frozen storage and completing sample chain of custody documentation. May pickup and transport samples, as necessary.
Unpacks chemicals and supplies, labels as appropriate.
Conducts sample disposal in accordance to all regulations. Discards waste solvents and other waste as necessary in accordance to all regulations.
Performs general maintenance of grinding equipment and other lab equipment as necessary.
May assist in recording refrigerator/freezer temperatures.
Cleans laboratory glassware. Returns clean glassware to proper locations.
May provide assistance to other lab personnel with additional tasks necessary for analysis.
Follows Morse Laboratories Standard Operating Procedures and the Good Laboratory Practice Standards.
Education and Experience:
High School diploma or equivalent. Science background preferred.
