Basic Function: Under the direction of the Laboratory Supervisor, the Laboratory Technician is responsible for performing routine laboratory tests, procedures, and tasks. Follows well-defined criteria to perform work under the direction of the laboratory manager.
High school graduate or equivalent. Must meet CLIA requirements for testing personnel
Two or more years of experience as a Lab Technician required
Medical Terminology course preferred
Excellent communication skills
Skill in operating a computer, photocopy machine and other office type equipment
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with others
Performs daily quality control and maintenance on all instruments. Restocking of reagents.
Perform venipuncture procedure on patients as ordered by provider and following proper protocol.
Collects and performs test procedures on patient specimens.
Evaluates and solves problems related to collection and processing of test specimens.
Completes requisitions for appropriate send-out laboratory tests to designated facilities. Using proper CPT coding of tests for billing purposes.
Enters relevant patient data into LIS and labels patient specimens accordingly.
Follows proper protocol for drug screen collection.
Reviews lab results ensuring all are legible prior to submission to physician and follows established procedures to ensure physician reviews all results. Any and all abnormal results are presented to physician immediately.
Maintains all testing worksheets in accordance with established procedures.
Records all send-out specimens and review log on a daily basis in accordance with established procedures.
Record refrigerator temperatures and humidity and maintains quality assessment manual.
Assist providers and staff with other duties as needed; e.g. greet and room patient, open note in EMR, etc.
Complies with all federal guidelines and clinic policies and procedures including, but not limited to laboratory, drug and alcohol testing, blood borne pathogens, chemical safety, administrative policies and procedures, and corporate compliance. Applies the Minimum Necessary Standard when accessing protected health information. Practices within scope and current standards of care.
Attends mandatory clinic meetings
