Responsible for maintaining plants and plant growth facilities. Performing routine DNA isolations from plant material and genotyping to recover homozygous mutant lines. Catalog and maintain databases of plant, bacterial and DNA reagents available in the lab. Assist faculty and students to perform experiments using requisite lab equipment and instruments. Responsible for laboratory maintenance, preparing solutions, culture media and ordering supplies. May be required to handle biohazardous materials and lift heavy material (no more than 20 lbs).
BA/BS Degree in a Life Science related field.
Basic lab skills.
Good eye- hand coordination.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Strong organizational and time management skills with emphasis on accuracy and attention to detail.
Motivated individual with ability to efficiently multi task, work under pressure, handle interruptions and meet deadlines.
Ability to identify and determine problems, analyze information and implement solutions.
Capable of taking initiative and assuming responsibility.
Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
Must possess a learning orientation to changing technology and techniques.
Proficiency in software : Microsoft Word
Knowledge and experience with Arabidopsis thaliana plant growth, DNA isolation and genotyping.
Recombinant protein isolation and plasmid DNA purification from E. coli experience.
A background check will be required for employment in this position.
