Lead Claims Examiners (Lead Debt Specialists) contribute to the Agency's mission through direct and personal service to the public. This includes communicating with customers about their rights under Social Security laws as it relates to overpayment recovery and appeals, misused funds and conserved funds, and using state-of-the-art computer technology to access and update information.

TYPE OF POSITION
: This position is being filled on a part-time basis 30 hours per week, temporary NTE 1 year, may be extended.
: This is not a career ladder position; GS-10 is the full performance level.

Must Pass Meet and Deal Panel Interview
Lead Claims Examiners serve as Lead Debt Specialists and analysts for all operational functions in the area of overpayment recovery and appeals, rate computations, misused funds and conserved funds.
Must be met by the closing date of this announcement:
52 weeks of specialized experience at least equivalent to the GS-9 level. Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled which has equipped the candidate with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to successfully perform the duties of the position. Examples of specialized experience include knowledge of Federal, State, or local laws, regulations, and procedures as they pertain to eligiblity for benefits, computation of rates, overpayment recovery and appeals, and debt collections systems operations.
Part-time work is prorated in crediting experience (e.g., if you work 20 hours per week for a 12-month period, you will be credited with 6 months of experience).
TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT
(Must be met as of the closing date of this announcement):
: Applicants must have 52 weeks at the GS-9 or higher.
In addition to the minimum qualifications, applicants must be eligible under ICTAP.

SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR:
After meeting the qualifications noted above, you will participate in a panel interview to demonstrate your ability to serve the public. To receive further consideration, you must demonstrate qualities such as clarity of speech, ability to listen, ability to establish confidence and put others at ease, and the ability to organize and express thoughts clearly. If you do not pass the panel interview, you will not qualify for the job.
