The Lead Direct Support Professional is responsible for assisting the House Manager or Operations Manager and other program staff in providing on-site management and supervision of the residential support facilities and the consumers in compliance with health, safety, funding and program standards as set forth in the HCS Consumer Principles and the organization's policies and procedures. Assists the House Manager or Operations Manager with the management of care for consumers in the group home or the life enrichment center. This position may also be responsible for the scheduling and activities of Direct Support Professionals.
Assists in managing house operations, including purchasing and maintaining food and household supplies as specified by individual and program requirements.
Ensures that food and all supply purchasing is maintained within budgetary guidelines.
Monitors the comfort and safety of individuals served while ensuring living environments and program activities are in compliance with consumer principles and organization policies and procedures.
Assists in interviewing and hiring staff.
Provides coverage as needed to ensure adequate staff ratios.
Performs the duties of Direct Support Professional personnel when no other is available to perform the duties.
Manages petty cash for the residential facilities and the consumers as needed.
Prepares requests for consumer's money if VOATX manages his/her funds.
Prepares financial requests for petty cash, shopping, and maintenance needs; reconciles all expenses and submits receipts according to agency policy.
Completes preventive maintenance reports as scheduled for facilities and vehicles, including monthly fire drills, vehicle reports and pest control statements.
Arranges repairs and maintenance for equipment, appliances and vehicles by contacting appropriate personnel and following through to ensure completion.
Assists in training, supervision and evaluation of direct care personnel.
Advocates for the consumer's inclusion in community life and ensures participation in recreation and leisure activities.
Advocates for individual consumer's rights.
Develops and maintains positive relationships with consumers, co-workers, families and other agencies.
Assists the Interdisciplinary Team with development of consumer's program plans, including initial, annual and special assessments.
Assists in developing a detailed training method that is individualized according to each consumer's needs and recommendations of the Interdisciplinary Team.
Provides continuous instruction, supervision, training, encouragement, and reinforcement to consumers according to the consumer's program plan.
Assists in the review process of consumer's programs and completes all required program documentation in a timely manner.
Provides assistance with medications and the performance of tasks delegated by a Registered Nurse and completes documentation as required by policies and procedures in a timely manner.
Assists in carrying out the training outlined in behavior management plans or behavior strategies and completes required documentation in a timely manner.
Assists in securing and providing transportation.
Arranges for house meetings; attends and participates in monthly staff meetings and other trainings as required.
Advises supervisor of any special needs or emergencies and recommend follow-up.
Assists supervisor with budget control activities, e.g., conserving resources, reducing utilities cost, avoiding waste, reducing overtime, etc.
Requires regular attendance and punctuality, i.e., employee must be at the assigned work location (which might vary depending client needs) during the scheduled shift to perform the above essential functions.
When working in the HCS programs, will adhere to the programs' evidentiary principles.

Knowledge of basic homemaking skills; availability of community resources; identification of consumer training needs; development and implementation of training plans; and documentation of care and training; and physical ability to assist or respond to consumer needs in their personal environment.
Tolerance, patience, consistency, flexibility and creativity in dealing with individual consumers and families are strongly preferred and very important to success.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Must have a high school diploma or equivalent, OR be able to pass a competency exam.
One year directly related, transferable experience or training with individuals with developmental disabilities.
Valid Texas Drivers License and ability to be insured; valid Vehicle Liability if driving personal vehicle.
