This Lead Engineer role has project management and technical responsibility for developing and delivering underground transmission projects (both oil-filled, and solid core cable types) for voltage classes 69kV and above, on time and on budget, including:
1. project team initiation, coordination, and communication
2. project scope development,
3. estimate and schedule preparation and management,
4. project status meetings,
5. design-engineering (including plans and specifications),
6. oversight of field construction activities, and
7. project close requirements.
This position requires extensive progressive experience to perform and interpret complex engineering analyses and engineering-design for large and/or complex engineering underground transmission projects, using specialized programs and or vendor specific software. Position requires ability to lead the work as well as to work independently on projects, effectively incorporating engineering theories, standards and techniques as well as engineering/industry/government codes and regulations (for example IBC, ACI, AISC, NFPA, ANSI) to include experience interpreting building and zoning codes.
This position will be company liaison to outside groups, organizations, governments and regulatory bodies and will represent the Underground Transmission group in working with other departments, consultants and contractors to establish or review plans, designs, calculations methods, solutions, etc.
This position is a NERC regulated position. As such, a background check will be conducted on the incumbent every seven years. Additionally, the incumbent will be required to complete annual NERC compliance training.
Bachelor of Science in Civil or Mechanical engineering. (ABET accredited)
Minimum 8 years of progressive, relevant engineer experience as described below (including experience as a Senior Engineer) OR the equivalent combination of education, experience and/or training demonstrating the following skills:
-- demonstrated ability to develop and deliver projects (on time and on budget)
--demonstrated ability to lead project teams to successful project delivery
-- performing complex work independently, effectively incorporating engineering theories, standards, concepts, and techniques as well as engineering/industry/government codes and regulations.

-- developing creative solutions to complex problems.
-- managing multiple complex engineering projects/assignments and ensuring work conforms to project/task requirements, including coordinating work across different areas, departments and/or work groups.
-- identifying the need for new projects/initiatives and recommending a solution.
-- mentoring engineers and others in a variety of engineering projects/activities.
-- keeping abreast of new materials, construction methods and developments in engineering applications.
Extensive experience demonstrating skill presenting oral and written results of engineering projects.
Experience demonstrating skill using PC-based word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, database, analytical and e-mail software.
Ability and willingness to travel to various company locations and work sites.
Ability and willingness to work extended hours (including holidays and weekends) with little or no notice, on-call and during storms and system emergencies.
Ability and willingness to adhere to safety regulations and policies and to wear and use safety equipment as required by Federal, State, Local and PHI regulations (for example, steel toed shoes, rubber gloves and sleeves, hard hat, fire retardant clothing).
Ability and willingness to work in a variety of work environments which may include outdoors in all weather conditions, on or around energized electrical equipment, in confined spaces, climbing, underground and in noisy and dirty environments with proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Must possess a valid driver’s license.
Must successfully pass a Criminal History Records Check.

Professional Engineer (PE) license.
Experience demonstrating skill utilizing transmission design software (for example, Optimal PoleCad, SAG10, PLS-CAD, EPRI TL Workstation, etc).
Experience demonstrating skill utilizing SAP, WMIS and/or GIS.
Experience demonstrating skill assisting supervisors with assigning work, explaining procedures/processes, training personnel, and/or solving problems.
Experience demonstrating skill applying intensive and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in broad areas of assignments and related fields.
Experience demonstrating skill designing Underground Transmission Lines.
