GE Energy Management’s Power Conversion Division provides Electrical power conversion systems for various renewables applications. Typical scope includes Power Inverter, and transformers. GE often takes on a larger systems role supplying E-house, switchgear, and control as well as the associated power systems engineering.

Essential Responsibilities
In addition, you will:
  • Provide support to the sales and proposal teams working on new prospects. Work with this team to transition successful proposals to the implementation / project stage
  • Provide technical leadership on allocated projects, working in conjunction with the project manager
  • Ensure that all customer, contract and regulatory technical requirements on allocated projects are met
  • Lead and coordinate engineering design teams to meet project objectives in terms of quality, reliability, cost and schedule (on time delivery)
  • Be able to carry out basic design, typically at the system level, for example writing project / equipment requirements, test and commissioning plans and defining interface points within system
  • Act as the key technical interface to the customer and within the GE organization
  • Continue through the design and supply phase and into the installation and commissioning phase when the lead engineer acts as the single point of contact for the customer and site team to resolve site issues and flow down to design engineers for resolution
  • Act as the key technical interface to the suppliers, including evaluation of the supplier’s solution, and testing, in terms of being able to meet the customer and regulatory requirements for competitive cost at the proposal and / or project stages
  • Identify and manage technical risks on the projects and ensure mitigation plans are in place
  • Identify and manage customer’s technical expectations and communicate them to the project team in a timely manner
  • Support an environment of continual improvement, which includes leading lessons learnt activities and providing continual feedback to the engineering design team
  • Identify and propose improvements in processes, tools and system solutions, rolling out improvements when agreed with the leadership team
  • As leader of multi-disciplined project teams, deliver full systems (including power generation and distribution, protection, power conversion, and energy storage, control and automation
  • Ensure the appropriate quality control measures are implemented on the project and by the engineering team
  • Establish and manage contract design and test documentation
  • Produce design and test documentation
  • Provide internal reports to project manager and appropriate line managers
  • Comply with GE EHS regulations

    Qualifications/Requirements
  • Bachelor Degree in electrical engineering or related discipline
  • Minimum of 5 years in an engineering design environment
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the renewables, utility or related industry

    Desired Characteristics
  • Professional Engineer or equivalent proven record of continuous professional development
  • Project leadership / management experience or training
  • Minimum of 5 years in an engineering design environment
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the renewables, utility or related industry
  • Experience in application engineering of power systems or power converter / inverter systems
  • Good understanding of regulatory requirements and industry standards applicable to both the industry and the equipment
  • Experience of system integration and working on multi-discipline projects
  • Experience in a leadership role
  • Experience in integrated control schemes with PLCs, HMI and Drives
  • Capable of leading a multi-disciplined and possibly international team
  • Ability to multi-task on a variety of projects to strict time scales
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Anticipates customer needs and measures processes and performance through the customer’s eyes
