Metron Aviation provides advanced research, Air Traffic Flow Management (ATFM), airspace design and energy and environmental solutions to Air Navigation Service Providers (ANSP), airlines and airports. Metron Aviation is a prime contractor on System Engineering 2020 (SE-2020), the FAA’s strategic program for implementing NextGen, and is performing advanced research and development work on EUROCONTROL’s Single European Sky ATM Research (SESAR) program. In addition, Metron Aviation provides commercial ATFM solutions that optimize airspace and airport capacity for customers around the world including Airservices Australia, South Africa’s ATNS, Delta Air Lines and FedEx.

Metron Aviation, Inc. is seeking a Lead Environmental Analyst to provide technical assistance to Energy and Environmental Group customers such as the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) for multiple projects in the energy and environment domain. The candidate will support projects concerning the environmental analysis of aviation noise, air-quality, and fuel/GHG impacts, as well as the link these factors have with potential policy decisions related to environmentally sustainable aviation growth.

Environmental and operational analysis of air transportation systems and procedures

Creation and refinement of concepts, requirements and algorithms for modeling of the National Airspace System and/or international airspace, including both operational efficiency and environmental sustainability

Development of impact and benefits studies, including sensitivity analyses

Data collection and analysis supporting operational and environmental areas

Bachelor’s or advanced degrees in Environmental Studies, Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Operations Research, Engineering, Physics, Statistics, or related disciplines

6 to 10 years experience in environmental aspects of aviation (noise, air quality, climate, fuel efficiency, water, etc.), associated physical/chemical processes, and community-acceptance issues

Modeling experience in several of the above areas at the level of applying existing models, understanding relevant modeling techniques, and applying the techniques either inside or outside existing models

Experience in leading projects in this domain with requisite project management responsibilities

Proficiency with analytical/statistical tools and software packages, and with standard office software

Strong analytical and communication skills

Simulation modeling and optimization skills are beneficial

Ability to work in teams

Self-motivated, highly creative, and innovative

Candidate must be able to pass a background investigation and to obtain a Position of Public Trust designation
