This is an exciting role in the At-Home Services portfolio at The Home Depot. The position is responsible for leading the design of application solutions to meet user requirements. This includes integrating across multiple enterprise platforms and assessing the optimal way to leverage acquired technologies. The candidate will also define how to apply the latest technologies to each project.

As a lead developer you have expert knowledge in one or more programming languages. Because of your excellent understanding of the entire project life cycle, you have the ability to direct project teams in the gathering, design, and development of complex application architectures and integrations. Your role will ensure the highest quality implementations from design through quality insurance to production.

The successful candidate must be results-oriented and positive with excellent analytical and communication skills. You must be a self-starter able to perform with minimal supervision while working in a diverse team environment following Agile software development processes. The candidate must be able to present ideas and solutions at peer reviews and development sessions. They will demonstrate that they are capable of leading multiple efforts while maintaining quality. They will be expected to mentor team members in the day-to-day activities related to project work and technical growth.

The Lead Developer will partner with architects to ensure proper application design. Must be able to anticipate hardware and software design needs. The Lead Developer must have the ability to view packages and products to determine their viability within the solution being considered, or if they would be a good solution in other areas.

MAJOR TASKS, RESPONSIBILITIES AND KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES -
View software packages, products and define, prioritize, plan and implement solutions across multiple complex projects.
Ensure the team comprehends and applies the established processes, policies, standards and procedures.
Provide status reports to Manager and review boards on complex development projects.
Guide and direct project teams in the requirements gathering, design, and development of complex applications/programs.
Ensure compliance and conduct appropriate test reviews as necessary.

NATURE AND SCOPE -

Typically reports to Manager, Information Technology

No associates report to this role on a permanent basis, but requires the technical leadership of a project work team: may select team members and assess capabilities, provide technical training, provide information necessary to meet work, project or program objectives, evaluate program or project performance.

ENVIRONMENTAL JOB REQUIREMENTS -

Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.

Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS -

Must be eighteen years of age or older.
Must pass the Drug Test.
Must successfully complete any required training or orientation courses.

EDUCATION REQUIRED -

The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a high school diplomas and/or GED.

YEARS OF RELEVANT WORK EXPERIENCE -
7+

PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS -

Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS -

MUST HAVE:
At least 5 years designing solutions in the J2SE / TomCat / HTML / Javascript / AJAX space
Experience with standard SQL against Oracle, DB2/UDB, Informix or SQLServer
Proven experience designing enterprise services for use by internal and external clients. This includes SOAP and Restful / JSON services. In addition management of service capabilities including service levels, API design, and security
At least 2 years proven experience using application integration technologies including messaging, asynchronous communication, and integration across application platforms - including hosted solutions
Strong design skills - including object oriented programming and use of design patterns
Experienced in best practices for solutions design in agile and waterfall based methodologies
Proven ability to assess capabilities across available platforms and make recommendations on how leverage these in an optimal manner
Proven experience in the day to day leadership that is required to ensure projects deliver solutions that match requirements, timelines, architectural standards, and enterprise objectives

NICE TO HAVE QUALIFICATIONS -
Experience with retail applications that deliver across selling channels
Experience with BPM tools used to orchestrate business processes across application platforms
Experience with enterprise service management platforms such as Apigee
Experience developing mobile based solutions, including iOS and Android native applications
Experience with reporting platforms - including AD-HOC and canned reporting - and the use of Big-data to support alternatives to traditional SQL based options
Experience with using and integrating into cloud based platforms such as Salesforce.com.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND COMPETENCIES -
Ability to work independently with minimal direction.
Ability to communicate to a wide variety of audiences, both business and technical.
Understands the financial implications of the project (i.e. software capitalization, cost/benefits, etc.).
Strong decision making abilities.
Ability to lead and mentor others.
