The Lead QA Engineer will participate in audits, assessments and reviews of design processes and engineering design deliverables, with particular focus on Economic Simplified Boiling Water Reactor (ESBWR) commercial nuclear reactor design activities. Will evaluate processes for identification, documentation and management of product requirements, development of design specifications and development of designs to specifications. Lead Auditor qualification will be expected.
In addition, you will:
Review and evaluate processes for gathering, documenting and management product requirements and development of design specifications
Evaluate design activities for compliance to business design process, and provide recommendations for continuous improvements to design processes
Verify translation of design requirements into engineering design work products
Support, and eventually lead, audits and focused self-assessments of design processes, design activities and work products
Participate in and provide compliance input to New Product Introduction tollgate reviews and engineering design change control boards
Review condition reports, audit and self-assessment reports, and other performance related information to identify trends and develop recommendations for performance improvement
Participate in the New Plant Projects (NPP) corrective action process
Lead and participate in non-conformance assessments and root cause analyses
Review new and revised design activity procedures for compliance and implementation of best practices
Effectively communicate identified design process, documentation, work product and organizational system deficiencies via verbal and formal written communications to responsible engineers, engineering technical leaders, engineering managers and project/product line leaders
Work with minimal supervision and make independent sound judgments
Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, or Computer Science
Minimum of 5 years of mechanical design experience, including exposure to ASME codes and standards

Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Nuclear Engineering
Master’s Degree in Engineering
Experience with systematic approaches to managing product requirements and an understanding of mechanical design processes
Familiarity with codes, standards and regulatory requirements applicable to commercial U.S. nuclear power plant mechanical systems and components
Experience conducting non-conformance assessments (apparent cause analyses) and participating in root cause analyses
Experience using and maintaining design processes that gather, document and manage product requirements, and develop design specifications
Experience supporting focused self-assessments
Experience supporting audits as a technical specialist
Excellent writing and verbal communication skills
Demonstrated ability to think critically and develop clear, concise and accurate problem statements
Demonstrated ability to interface with external organizations, including vendors and customers
Ability to promote and maintain a professional working relationship while providing critical oversight
Demonstrated ability to facilitate organizational change
Minimum 10 years of commercial nuclear mechanical design experience
Lean Six Sigma training, preferably Green-Belt or Black-Belt certified (GE employees only)
