As an IT professional you have expert knowledge in one or more programming languages or databases. Because of your excellent understanding of the entire project life cycle, you have the ability to direct project teams in the gathering, design, and development of complex applications/programs. This is an opportunity to be the lead engineer to help plan, deploy, and run large and diverse implementations of systems like Microsoft System Center Operations Manager (SCOM), IBM Netcool, NerveCenter, Splunk, ServiceNow and Systems Center Orchestrator (SCORCH). You're comfortable working with a team, have years of experience, and know what it's like to take network, system, or event management systems to the enterprise level. We need your help to:

  • Contribute to a SCOM deployment that started with 4 management groups and is growing to monitor thousands of Windows and cross platform (Red Hat Linux, HP-UX, and AIX) agents.
  • Partner with team members and other teams to develop processes and documentation to use all our monitoring tools to their fullest.
  • Develop or customize Perl, python, PowerShell, JavaScript, and other scripts to automate and customize alert actions, responses, descriptions and reports.
  • Provide data feeds into a configuration management database (CMDB) implementation in ServiceNow.
You will help integrate existing and new tools and data sources so that information technology service management at The Home Depot is second to none.

The Lead Systems Engineer develops, maintains and supports The Home Depot's complex technical infrastructures, hardware, and system software components. Operates as a team lead providing expert technical direction to team members. Interface with Business Stakeholders on all complex projects. Ability to present ideas and take charge of projects. Update manager on all escalated issues.

MAJOR TASKS, RESPONSIBILITIES AND KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES -
Manage installation, maintenance and support of complex technical infrastructures, hardware, and system software components.
Manage and tune platforms to ensure expected availability and performance levels are achieved.
Provide expert technical direction to Sr. System, System, Associate Engineers and contractors.
Manage store & SSC engineering and roll-out implementation.
Perform root cause analysis for service interruption recovery; create preventative measures on complex projects.
Interface with Business Stakeholders on all applicable projects. Update manager on all escalated issues.

NATURE AND SCOPE -

Typically reports to Manager, Information Technology
No associates report to this role on a permanent basis, but requires the leadership of a work group: assign and review work, train and contribute to performance appraisal (but not hiring, firing or disciplinary action).

ENVIRONMENTAL JOB REQUIREMENTS -

Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS -

Must be eighteen years of age or older.
Must pass the Drug Test.
Must successfully complete any required training or orientation courses.

EDUCATION REQUIRED -

The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a high school diplomas and/or GED.

YEARS OF RELEVANT WORK EXPERIENCE - 5

PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS -

Frequent periods are spent standing or sitting in the same location with some opportunity to move about; occasionally there may be a need to stoop or lift light objects (typically less than 8 pounds).

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS -

Expert Knowledge and experience with computer hardware, operating systems and system software.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS -
5+ years of experience using Internet standards-based (e.g. DNS, TCP/IP, ARP, TCP sockets) and Windows-based (Active Directory, WMI, NetBIOS, CIFS/SMB) networks with a sound understanding of Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Microsoft Windows
3+ years of experience installing, configuring, and operating a network, systems, or event management system such as IBM Netcool, Microsoft System Center Operations Manager, HP OpenView Network Node Manager, HP Service Manager or Remedy Action Request System in a large environment with thousands of managed or monitored agents or nodes
Solid understanding of the fundamentals of Microsoft SCOM (engineering, deploying, running, tuning, and management pack creation)
5+ years experience of working in team environments and teaching others what you know
3+ years of experience maintaining and supporting Unix/Linux based systems with a solid understanding of Unix or Linux based servers
5+ years scripting experience (e.g. Python, PowerShell, Perl, JavaScript, bash)
Demonstrable experience designing, deploying, and managing systems using the following technologies: SNMP polling, SNMP traps,TCP socket or streams communications, DNS infrastructures, or Active Directory

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND COMPETENCIES -
Expert knowledge of the PC (hardware and software) is essential.
Ability to listen to what the user is saying and then interpret what he/ she is trying to get across.
The ability to work autonomously and with a diverse team.
Ability to communicate at all levels.
