As an IT professional you have expert knowledge in one or more programming languages or databases. Because of your excellent understanding of the entire project life cycle, you have the ability to direct project teams in the gathering, design, and development of complex applications/programs. The Lead System Specialist will have a minimum of 5 years systems administration/engineering experience in a Unix/Linux business enterprise production environment including server configuration, application deployment, system security patching, maintenance and support. Hands-on experience of system and scripting: bash, perl, python or equivalent. Experience with server virtualization, load-balancing, high availability, clustering technology, performance analysis, system tuning. Set up network interface on servers, troubleshoot and resolve network related issues. Must understand basic networking technology such as Ethernet, ARP, TCP/IP; Working knowledge of LDAP, DNS, SNMP. Knowledge of Enterprise backup solutions: TSM, Avamar, Mondo.
As well as, experience with process/procedure improvement and solution development, documentation, implementation. The ability to propose and recommend best practices for systems reliability, scalability, redundancy. Ability to effectively prioritize work activities and manage multiple tasks. Strong analytical and problem solving skills. Ability to mentor and train junior indviduals of the support team.
Monitor, maintain, and support end-user hardware and software applications. This may include evaluating new systems during the pre-implementation phases, supporting the customers, resolving user problems, and training the end-users and teammates.
MAJOR TASKS, RESPONSIBILITIES AND KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES -
Assesses financial effect of wiring, staging and installation costs, new equipment purchases, and project changes.
Ensures proper asset management for all items being installed and uninstalled.
Oversees the computer maintenance expense line on store profit and loss statements to ensure that expenses are charged appropriately in accordance with GAAP and Home Depot policies.
Reviews monthly profit and loss statements for IS department and analyzes expenditures vis-a-vis their budget.
Conducts post project reviews to determine financial and operational success.
Selects, develops, and motivates assigned staff.

Typically reports to an IS Controller.
Direct reports typically include one or more Senior Systems Specialists, Systems Specialists and Associate System Specialists.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS -
Must be eighteen years of age or older.

Must successfully complete any required training or orientation courses.
EDUCATION REQUIRED -
The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a bachelor's degree program or equivalent degree in a field of study related to the job.

PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS -
Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS -
Follow defined configuration and administration procedures to maintain a high level of service and ensure optimal availability in the production environment
Ensure stability, viability and maintenance of the 24/7 mission-critical production environment
Monitoring and tuning platforms to ensure expected availability and performance levels are achieved
Perform installation, maintenance and support of hardware and infracstructure
Perform root cause analysis for service interruption recovery; create preventative measures and present to management
Responsibilities including day-to-day adminstering of Unix/Linux: RedHat, AIX and HP-UX
Monitoring performance and health of the production environment and provide recommendation for improvement to address any technical issues
Plan, document and execute technical changes as needed according to approved business requirements and Change Management process
Provide technical assistance in Data Center, store and logistics engineering and roll-out implementation
Excellent communication, organization, time management and multi-tasking skills
