The LTA - @amex Center of Excellence position is the lead technical consultant responsible for creating and implementing technical architecture, subject matter, consultation, certification, effort sizing, and development expertise for American Express in the @amex Center of Excellence (COE). This critical role will work with many technical and business teams daily and help fuel adoption and advanced usage of SharePoint capabilities and technology throughout the company.

The @amex COE provides consultation, certification, and development services internally. Over time, the COE will provide services for all @amex capabilities. Initial service offerings will focus on SharePoint-related services. This is an exciting growth area for the enterprise as the COE will look to work with more than 80,000 customers across our many lines of business.

We are looking for an experienced and highly motivated SharePoint lead, with broad experience in SharePoint (2010 or later) application development, architecture, technical capabilities, consultation, customer engagement, and application development/design concepts. The position requires strong customer, technical, development, and communication skills and a track record of delivering results with large SharePoint implementations in partnership with internal/external partners, support, and service providers.

This job posting is one of three open Lead Technical Architect (LTA) positions in the @amex Delivery organization (all separate areas of responsibilities).

Responsibilities include:
  • Play an integral role in building and enhancing the infrastructure required to support the platform(s) or set of applications in terms of robustness, scalability, availability, and efficiency
  • Work with Technical and Business Architects to ensure developments support the business and IT strategic plan
  • Create or lead the creation of processes, procedures, support flow, and how-to documentation
  • Analysis of advanced end-user needs to determine and recommend solution options
  • Day to day partnership and oversight of our outsourced partners in support of @amex Center of Excellence services
  • Track support trends and create corrective solutions through training, info shares, and end-user communication channels
  • Determine required infrastructure and design needed to support business requirements for workplace tools
  • Consult with COE resources, technical teams, business partners, and all levels of leadership
  • Develop presentations and communicate across different levels of technical understanding
  • Drive @amex COE development resources to implement and deliver agreed on COE services to customers
  • Provide a technical view of workplace vision accessible to business users to help drive workplace technologies transformation
  • Partner with architect/engineering groups for the technical direction for workplace technologies, providing consulting expertise and leveraging business and technical knowledge to support business strategies and deliver business value
  • Work with technical and business architects to ensure developments support the business and IT strategic plan
  • Interact with business partners to share and direct architecture practices that may affect business solution delivery
  • Provide architectural governance, reviewing projects to ensure alignment to architectural and technical strategy
  • Ability to drive results with an emphasis on reducing cycle time and increasing speed to market of new products
  • Perform as a high-level, technical subject matter expert for the platform/applications supported (which may cover multiple applications)

  • Expert/developer level knowledge of SharePoint required, cloud hosting experience and 2010 preferred
  • 3+ years experience dealing with end users and facilitation of solutions to meet identified needs
  • Strong consultative and leadership presentation skills with an excellent ability to translate technical language and architecture into usable business understanding
  • Experience preferred includes: SharePoint application development, sandboxed solutions and client-side object model, Windows Server (2008, 2012) administration, .NET development (V 3.5), ASP.NET Development, WSS development, MOSS development, SQL Server (2008, 2012) administration and development, SharePoint Designer (2010), other UI design tool experience
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or other related field, or has equivalent work experience
  • Typically has prior experience in multiple IT disciplines with a proven understanding of architectural concepts (data, technical ,and solution), issues, and trends
  • Familiar with architecture frameworks such as TOGAF (The Open Group Architecture Framework)
  • Requires advanced to expert level knowledge and understanding of architecture, applications systems design, and integration, with a detailed understanding of applicable programming methodologies
  • Extensive experience using a systems analysis and design methodology and an excellent understanding of industry trends and tools
