Bechtel University and Bechtel Leadership Academy, Bechtel’s formal learning and leadership development organizations, are designed to support the regional and business diversity of Bechtel’s customers. As a result, the Leadership Manager would be expected to support both regional and business interests while ensuring that learning and leadership development is widely accessible, consistent and world-class.

Bechtel delivers leadership development through the Bechtel Leadership Academy (BLA) which is part of Bechtel University. The BLA team is responsible for creating and delivering a cross-cultural and business learning strategy to help build leadership skills and accelerate talent growth across all levels of leaders (i.e., early career, front-line supervisors, middle management, and executive). The leadership curriculum includes instructor-led, online and on-the-job leadership learning and experiences provided by internal and external resources. The core curriculum is the same across all regions and businesses and is built around the Bechtel Leadership Model, the BLA needs assessment and other cultural and metrics such as engagement and business performance. Bechtel University also includes Schools of EPC Functions (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) and Schools of Business Services (all other functions). These schools provide technical training to professionals working across the GBUs.

Position Description:

Bechtel is seeking a Leadership Manager for North America-West to be located in the Houston, Texas office (Oil, Gas and Chemical home office location). This position will be part of a team that includes other regional managers based in major offices around the world including North America-East (Reston, VA), Europe/Africa/Middle East (London), Asia Pacific (Brisbane, Australia) and South America (Santiago, Chile). Each regional leadership manager will be responsible for multiple business units and projects within their assigned regions. All leadership managers will collaborate with one another and report to the Dean of the BLA who will be located in North America and will be responsible for implementing the corporate leadership development curriculum and supporting leadership development programs for their regions as well as helping to develop and deliver customized local programs.

As the Regional Faculty Lead for North America-West, the successful candidate will be responsible for understanding Bechtel’s business strategies and organizing resources to provide leadership learning and tools at all levels for all projects and businesses in their region. Candidates will benefit from having a proven track record as a highly successful General Manager, Academic scholar and professor or leadership development and learning professional. S/he will also benefit from demonstrating experience as an effective program manager, facilitator, and trainer, as well as some experience in instructional design (classroom and web-based). This role is responsible for analyzing needs as well as designing, developing, delivering and continuously improving learning content for target populations throughout the Bechtel “Leadership Pipeline.”

Primary Responsibilities:

The North America – West leadership officer lead will be responsible for:

- Working with the Bechtel Leadership Academy team to design and manage programs that enable leaders to understand and apply the Bechtel Leadership Model (BLM), Bechtel Covenants and Leadership toolkit worldwide.
- Collaborating with internal groups (e.g., Global Business Unit Executives, Bechtel University Advisory Council, HR staff, and EPC functions) to assess development needs and design programs that build leadership and people management capability.
- Partnering with Bechtel leaders and business, functional and service organizations to assess, plan and implement innovative development solutions (e.g., classroom, e-learning, and social networking tools), that address organizational capability gaps and enable successful fulfilment of business goals and objectives.
- Building learning interventions that accelerate the development of employees at all organizational levels and hi-potential leaders in key company roles.
- Employ development and discovery-based delivery methodologies that clearly link learning to business performance, career development and engagement.
- Facilitating selection and use of technology-based and “blended” (on-line, simulation, classroom, and web-based), leadership, business skills and career development learning resources that will maximize relevance, impact and understanding across a global audience.
- Serving as a developmental and learning partner/consultant to businesses, functions and regions, assisting businesses and HR leaders in the translation of business goals and objectives into targeted learning strategies and tactics.
- Developing executives as teachers so that they may lead various learning programs.
- Collaborating with external thought leaders, vendors, learning/development partners and professional networks.

Education and Experience:

- A Master’s Degree is required. A degree in Psychology, Sociology, Behavioral Sciences or business is strongly preferred; although other areas will be considered as long as candidate has appropriate experience.
- Eight years of experience is in adult learning/ leadership development, use of progressive and innovative learning methodologies, organizational development, and/or human performance improvement methods.
