Empire State College’s Long Island Center seeks candidates for a half time (50%) faculty position in health care. The successful candidate will be expected to teach in her/his area(s) of expertise and be a generalist able to design and guide independent and group studies in a wide variety of areas. The role of faculty mentor entails mentoring students on a one-to-one basis, in group learning settings, and in blended learning formats, reviewing work regularly with students, and providing formative and summative evaluations of students’ work. Faculty mentors work collaboratively with colleagues at the center and college-wide. The successful candidate will demonstrate an ability to collaborate with local and regional community agencies, including health care agencies, to develop programs of study to meet their educational needs.
The Long Island Center serves approximately 1,200 students annually at three locations. Our central office is in Old Westbury, NY. Our two units are located in Hauppauge and Riverhead. This position will be based in Old Westbury with travel to our Hauppauge office to meet with students.
An earned master’s degree from a regionally accredited US university or comparable non-US university in healthcare administration, public health or a related field. Successful candidates must have the potential to effectively mentor and teach adults from diverse backgrounds at the undergraduate level. Successful candidates will also have strong communication and computer skills, and effective organizational skills.
Preference will be given to candidates with relevant professional experience in healthcare administration and/or public health. Also preferred are candidates who demonstrate knowledge of adult learning, individualized and interdisciplinary programs and learning technologies.
This position will be based in Old Westbury with travel to the Hauppauge office.
Rank/Salary: $31,000-$32,000, depending on qualifications.
