Empire State College, Brooklyn Unit of the Metropolitan Center, seeks one (75%) part-time faculty mentor to advise students and teach. The position involves face-to-face advising and teaching in Brooklyn from September 1, 2013 - August 30, 2014.
Academic advising is a crucial part of the responsibilities. At Empire State College mentors work with students in the design of their individualized degree plans. The successful candidates will enjoy working with students to advise and facilitate learning from entry through graduation. We seek student-centered faculty with an understanding of diverse approaches to learning.

The Metropolitan Center, with locations in Brooklyn, Manhattan and Staten Island, serves approximately 2200 students annually. The academic mission of the Center focuses on student success, innovative approaches to learning, and links to the community of which our learners are a part.
Master’s degree from a regionally accredited US university or comparable non-US university is required. One year teaching experience in a college setting is required. Experience advising or mentoring is required. Effective communication style, computer literacy, and organizational skills.
Specialization in business. Familiarity with adult learning, individualized and interdisciplinary programs, learning technologies and online pedagogies, and innovative program delivery, as well as demonstrated commitment to diversity issues in higher education or through community-based work.
Three-quarter time (75%) position requires 3.75 days per week commitment. The position is located at 177 Livingston Street, Brooklyn. Office hours will vary to accommodate student needs, but afternoon and evening hours are required. Teaching is scheduled in the late afternoon and evening Monday-Thursday. Occasional travel among the three New York City locations (Manhattan, Brooklyn and Staten Island) is required. Some weekend hours a possibility.
This is a temporary position.
Rank/Salary: $40,000 - $45,000, depending on qualifications.
