Underwriting Manager

Reports To: General Manager

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Position Primary Purpose: Make initial loan determinations within the Credit Union Direct Lending (CUDL) system for potential eligible borrowers. Conduct the remote interview process with borrowers to determine program eligibility. Connect with coworkers, dealerships, borrowers and external customers by providing friendly and efficient service and work together to solve problems quickly.

Essential Functions

Monitor, review, evaluate and make initial decisions on CUDL system for potential eligible borrowers. Document decisions and notes extensively in the software, including requests for additional information.

Responsible for administering loan underwriting within approved guidelines while monitoring and reporting variances.

Communicate loan status to internal customers and gather additional information as necessary. Set rates, terms and conditions with internal customers and document in processing system.

Establish method of disbursement with borrowers, document funding conditions and place loan in proper processing system queue.

Conduct interviews of borrowers while documenting responses and information extensively to protect against charge-offs.

Maintain the CUDL system with accurate dealer information. Utilize the CUDL system and generate reports as needed.

Complete all education, training and professional development required for position.

Comply with all state and federal regulations and compliance standards, including: Identify Theft Protection Plan (ITPP), Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), Customer Information Privacy (CIP), Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) as well as Credit Union policies and procedures. Complete required compliance training.

Ensure required records are retained in accordance with the records retention program and are preserved in a careful and secure manner.

Use network PC workstation to access core system software to perform account transactions, queries, and specialized functions for accounts as needed. Utilize all Internet service delivery systems and Microsoft Office Suite to perform duties as needed. Operate and maintain department equipment and troubleshoot as needed.

Non-Essential Functions

Perform additional duties as assigned and work in other departments or perform other job functions as required.

Position Qualifications

Previous Experience: Performed successfully in a consumer operations position for a minimum of two years. Working knowledge of CUDL program required, previous experience with Dealer Track program desired.

Education: High School Diploma or GED.

Demonstrated Abilities: Express thoughts clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing. Interact positively with co-workers, management and the public. Working knowledge of federal and state real estate and consumer lending regulations. Evaluate title documents, insurance reports, and verification of income records, NADA/KBB values and purchase orders. Interview, evaluate, approve, deny and process CUDL applications.

Physical Requirements: Sitting or standing continuously for periods of four hours, communicating verbally, communicating in writing, faculty of seeing and hearing and operating a keyboard. Lifting and carrying usually not to exceed 30 pounds. Driving and operating a motor vehicle safely and in accordance with all laws and rules.

Mental Requirements: Interpersonal interactions, problem solving, analyzing/evaluating, decision making, discretion/confidentiality, math skills, teamwork, read/write/speak English, creativity and task handling.

Working Conditions: Work is performed both in an office environment and also at dealerships or other outside locations. This position requires mobility within the office. Required to travel to travel dealerships and various locations/facilities for job related training, meetings and events.
