Hennepin County Library (HCL) is looking to hire several enthusiastic ALA-accredited Librarians to work at various libraries. The current openings include benefited part-time hours at our Augsburg Park (Richfield), Excelsior and Plymouth, Roosevelt/Nokomis Libraries. In addition to these current openings, we are also using this posting to create a list of applicants that will be used to fill future vacancies.
The librarians in these positions will provide a full spectrum of library services to a wide range of diverse customers with a focus on adult services and programs.

Schedules include evening and weekend shifts (Saturday and/or Sunday depending on the library).
The primary duties and responsibilities of this position include:
Provide a welcoming environment for all patrons Work at a public service desk to provide reference and readers' advisory in the selection of materials for diverse patrons of all ages Provide community engagement services to the local community Instruct library patrons in the use of the online catalog, electronic databases, Internet resources, and other library materials Plan, deliver, and evaluate programs for adults Merchandise and maintain collection Provide backup assistance for children's library services including storytimes, school class visits and group programs Create a positive work environment through flexibility, problem solving, and informed decision making
Best Qualified Candidates will have: An ALA-accredited master's degree in library science Experience with up-to-date resources (both print and electronic) used to locate information on a variety of subject areas and formats Familiarity with and ability to discuss or instruct in their appropriate use, current technologies and their trends, especially those for social media (Facebook, Twitter, blogs) and also including Wikis, Flickr, JAWS, MAGIC, eReaders, etc.) Ability to:
- Instruct the public in the use of library services and facilities
- Negotiate a wide variety of information requests
- Work with a high level of public contact in person, online, and by phone, while providing exceptional customer service
- Establish and maintain rapport with the public and staff, working in a team environment
- Demonstrate the established Hennepin County employee competencies
