Manages the staff, equipment collection and services in the Adult Services Division of the library under the general supervision of the Library Director which requires a high level of leadership capabilities.
Develops and controls division budget and provides collection development in all adult non-fiction and media collections. Works with vendors, service representatives and staff to select materials and equipment for the division. Has general working knowledge of City policies and specific knowledge of library policies. Provides input to library policies and procedures. Works with other division managers and Library Director to plan and implement the library services program.
Provides direct supervision for full-time and part-time employees assigned to the Adult Services Division.
Minimum of two (2) years of experience working in a supervisory position in a public library required.
Bachelor's degree required. ALA approved Master's degree in Librarianship is preferred. An equivalent combination of education and/or experience may substitute for education requirement on a year-for-year basis.
Must have thorough working knowledge of established library resources, methodology, current and future trends and specific knowledge of library technology systems and programs. Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills to interact effectively with people of all ages.
Working Environment and Required Background Checks:
Work is performed in a typical library environment with extensive public contact. Directs and/or assists guests to locations within the building. Move and/or position materials on varying height shelves and in file cabinets. Move and/or position library carts and media carts weighing more than 50 lbs. Schedule is flexible, requiring some weekend and evening hours. Travel to off-site meetings and programs may be required.
