This position is responsible for checking books in and out, shelving books, and performing a variety of clerical duties in support of the circulation desk .
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Sorts and shelves materials.
Contacts patrons regarding missing items.
May update the display area.
Provides services to patrons at the circulation desk by checking materials in and out, renewing items, answering general reference questions, collecting fines, issuing new cards, and responding to telephone inquiries.
Answers the telephone; directs calls and takes messages.
Assists patrons with placing items on reserve.
Inspects and straightens shelves.
Contacts patrons regarding requested materials on hold.
Submits worn or torn materials for repair; prepares related paperwork.
Checks in books from the book-drop.
Performs security tasks by detaining patrons whose library materials set off the alarm upon their departure.
Performs other related duties as assigned. Supervisory Responsibilities None Knowledge of: Library policies and procedures

Utilize automated and computer-based information systems Plan and organize work independently. Communicate effectively orally and in writing.
An equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the job. Education High School diploma or equivalent Experience One year in a library setting providing direct customer assistance and shelving books. Certifications, Licenses, Registrations North Carolina Driver’s License
Work Environment The work is typically performed in a Library. Physical Demands The work is typically performed while sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee frequently lifts light objects, occasionally lifts heavy objects, and uses equipment requiring dexterity.
