Under direct supervision, the purpose of the position is to sort and shelve library materials. Performs related work as required.
Duties and Responsibilities/Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Behaviors:
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES
Sorts and shelves library materials using the Dewey Decimal System and by alphabetizing.
Reads (monitors) and maintains shelf order.
Organizes materials on shelves.
Checks the condition of all materials prior to shelving.
Clears up any disorder or overcrowding discovered while shelving; reports the problem if extensive shifting is required.
Empty and sort book drops.
Comply with all written City policies and procedures.
Adhere to assigned work schedule as outlined in City and department attendance policies and procedures.

Ability to utilize alpha and numeric filing systems.
Answers directional questions and refers patrons to reference and circulations staff as appropriate.
Organize public reading areas as needed.
Assists with materials inventory.

Ability to interact in a cooperative, pleasant, and constructive manner.
Ability to work with accuracy, consistency, and dependability.
Ability to determine priorities to support the needs of the library.

High School degree or GED diploma or currently enrolled in High School or GED program. Must be a minimum of Sixteen (16) years old. Must be able to work nights, afternoons, and Saturdays.
Any work related experience resulting in acceptable proficiency levels in the above Minimum Qualifications is an acceptable substitute for the above specified education and experience requirements.
Over two-thirds of on-the-job time is spent talking, hearing, standing, reaching and using one’s hand to touch, handle or feel objects.
Between one-third and two-thirds of on-the-job time is spent walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling.
Under one-third of on-the-job time is spent sitting, climbing or balancing, tasting / smelling.
The ability to lift and / or exert force up to ten (10) pounds may be required over two-thirds of the time and up to one hundred (100)+ pounds may be required between one-third and two-third of the time.
There is limited exposure to environmental conditions.
