The County of Sonoma Department of Health Services is seeking licensed professionals to fill multiple current and anticipated Full-Time and Part-Time vacancies in the Behavioral Health Division. These vacancies can be filled at either the Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or Marriage Family Therapist (MFT) level. This employment list may be used to fill future Full-Time, Part-Time, or Extra-Help (temporary) vacancies as they occur during the active status of the list.

LCSWs and MFTs provide recovery-oriented mental health interventions and related supportive services to seriously and persistently mentally ill adults and children/youth with serious emotional disturbances, and their families. Services are provided in various clinical settings which may include Psychiatric Emergency Services (PES), Jail Mental Health Services and other forensic settings, and multiple community-based and mobile treatment programs.

The ideal LCSW/MFT candidate will have demonstrated experience providing recovery-oriented mental health services in one or more of the following environments:
Programs that serve seriously and persistently mentally ill adults or seriously emotionally disturbed (SED) children/youth and their families,
An interdisciplinary service delivery team, and/or
A forensic setting. The Behavioral Health Division's 24-hour programs (PES and Jail Mental Health) have shift requirements and work schedules that will vary according to the staffing needs of the program. Compensation would include premium pay in both of these program locations, including as applicable. 10% premium for detention facilities (jail), and shift differentials as defined in the applicable employee organization agreements.

Minimum Qualifications:
Li censed Clinical Social Worker

The knowledge and abilities listed may be acquired through various types of training, education, and/or experience. A typical way to acquire the required knowledge and abilities would be:

Education : Master's Degree in Social Work from an accredited School of Social Work.

Experience : Some post-license experience Mental Health is desirable.

License : Possession of a valid Clinical Social Work license issued by the Board of Behavior Science Examiners, State of California.

Marriage Family Therapist

The knowledge and abilities listed may be acquired through various types of training, education, and/or experience. A typical way to acquire the required knowledge and abilities would be:

Education : Possession of a Master's degree or above from an accredited college or university in counseling, psychology, or a related field.

Experience : Some post-license experience in mental health is desirable.

License : Possession of a valid license as a Marriage Family Therapist (M.F.T.) issued by the Board of Behavior Science Examiners, State of California.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Licensed Clinical Social Worker

Knowledge Of : individual, group and family psychodynamics as they relate to adults or children; psychological diagnostic methods and terminology; personality development from infancy through adulthood; current principles and practices of psychiatric case work for adults or children; the human and health services systems in the community including private agencies and other community resources; methods used in individual, family and group therapies for adults as inpatients, outpatients and in day-treatment centers; psychosocial aspects and characteristics of mental and emotional disorders, terminology and medications; principles of mental health education, client and community advocacy and systems theory; client's legal rights; principles of clinical supervision.

Ability To : diagnose and treat either adults or children/adolescents with various mental disabilities ranging from dysfunctional behavior to victims of sexual or physical abuse; set realistic treatment goals and facilitate their attainment; evaluate patients/clients degree of mental disability or emotional distress; provide therapy services to adults or children individually and in groups; effectively communicate with mentally ill individuals to gather psychosocial histories and to provide therapeutic assistance to chronic, sub-acute, acute and difficult clients; develop and maintain the confidence and cooperation of mentally and emotionally disturbed clients to secure pertinent information and to effectively deliver mental health services; establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers, supervisors, clients, their families, other agencies, their staffs and others who have an interest in mental health services; lead and train ancillary staff; analyze situations and make decisions; speak and write clearly.

Marriage Family Therapist

Considerable Knowledge Of : principles and techniques of individual, family, child and group counseling; principles of crisis intervention, forensic services, school services and child abuse; the social aspects, characteristics, treatment and management of mental and emotional disorders; needs, problems and attitudes of mentally disturbed, socially or economically disadvantaged people, and minorities; the scope and activities of public and private health and welfare agencies; the principles of community mental health.

Knowledge Of : client's legal rights; principles and techniques of clinical supervision.

Ability To : develop and maintain the confidence and cooperation of mentally and emotionally disturbed clients to secure pertinent information and to effectively deliver mental health services; establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients and their families, departmental staff, and social agencies; supervise individual and group behavior and provide necessary support; lead and train support staff personnel; analyze situations accurately and make decisions; prepare clear, concise and comprehensive clinical and social case work records, analyze such information, and reach sound decisions on the basis of such information.

The selection procedure will consist of the following examination:

An Application & Supplemental Questionnaire Appraisal Examination (weight 100%) will be conducted to evaluate each applicant's application and supplemental questionnaire for satisfaction of minimum qualifications (pass/not pass), and for educational coursework, training, experience, knowledge, and abilities which relate to this position. Each applicant will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

Relevance of work history, related experience, and achieved level of education and/or training as described in the application and responses to the supplemental questions.
Candidates demonstrating possession of the minimum qualifications will be placed on an employment list in order of most qualified to least qualified based on the achieved score received in the Application & Supplemental Questionnaire Appraisal Examination . Scores may be adjusted based on such factors as number of candidates, anticipated vacancies, past practice, and natural breaks in the scores achieved by this group of candidates.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

A background investigation is required prior to employment. Candidates referred to departments for a selection interview are typically required to sign authorization and release forms enabling such an investigation.
