GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF CLASS: The purpose of the class is to ensure the safety of the swimmers at the pool, supervise the pool area, and to instruct people how to swim. The cl

ass is responsible for supervising the swimmers, maintaining the pool area, administering first aid, and teaching classes at different levels of swimming. The class works according to set procedures under direct supervision.

ESSENTIAL TASKS:
Monitors and observes the pool area for safety, weather, temperature, and other conditions.

Acts as a lifeguard by watching over the swimmers and other patrons to ensure safety.

Instructs swimming lessons at different level classes and prepares lesson plans for those classes.

Performs first aid, CPR, and other rescue functions.

Sets-up the pool area, brings out equipment, and closes the pool.

Cleans the pool deck and other surrounding pool areas.

Performs related tasks as necessary.

Requires handling or using machines, tools, or equipment that require brief instruction or experience such as water pump machines or other similar equipment.

COGNITIVE REQUIREMENTS
REASONING REQUIREMENTS:
Requires performing routine work using common sense.

MATHEMATICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Requires performing basic addition and subtraction, such as making change or measuring.

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS:
Requires comprehending simple signs, labels, symbols; understanding routine lists of instructions when explained; little or no reading or writing required by the job; basic speaking skills not necessarily including complete sentences.

MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
Requires simple, repetitive, manual or operating tasks involving a few definite procedures; requires minor short term planning and little attention for accurate results.

Requires being responsible for guiding others, requiring a few decisions affecting few coworkers; works in a stable environment with clear and uncomplicated written/ oral instructions, but with some variations from the routine.

VOCATIONAL/ EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE PREPARATION
VOCATIONAL/ EDUCATIONAL PREPARATION:
Requires instruction that is sufficient for satisfactory job performance.

SPECIAL CERTIFICATION AND LICENSES:
Requires valid certifications through the American Red Cross in Lifeguarding, First-Aid, and CPR-AED for lifeguards.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Must be at least eighteen (18) years old. Requires a short demonstration up to and including one month.

AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT REQUIREMENTS
PHYSICAL AND DEXTERITY REQUIREMENTS:
Requires light work that involves walking, standing, or swimming most of the time, exerting up to 20 pounds of force on a recurring basis, skill, adeptness and speed in the use of hands or limbs in instruction of proper technique.

ENVIRONMENTAL HAZARDS:
The job risks exposure to extreme heat and/or cold.

SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:
The job requires normal visual acuity and field of vision, hearing, speaking and depth perception.
