Independently performs duties at the beach to protect life, prevent accidents, and assist persons in distress; enforces beach safety regulations; and performs other related duties as required
Examples of Duties:
Maintains constant surveillance of the designated beach and performs tasks to include rescuing swimmers, administering emergency life support measure, and applying immediate First Aid and Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation as needed. Monitors participants for compliance of rules and regulations applicable to the assigned beach and reports infractions to the proper authorities. Operates all beach equipment and maintains lifeguarding equipment in top usable condition. Performs other related duties as assigned

Supervised By: Aquatics Supervisor, Lifeguard Supervisor
Knowledge of: techniques and methods of lifesaving; techniques of emergency life support including mouth-to-mouth and cardio-pulmonary resuscitation; first aid principles and practices.
Ability to: swim long distances; rescue persons from the water; administer emergency life support techniques including mouth-to-mouth and cardio-pulmonary resuscitation; give first aid; meet and deal tactfully and effectively with the public; and read and follow written instructions.
Physical Requirement: Persons seeking appointment to positions in this class must meet the health and physical condition standards deemed necessary and proper for performance of the duties.
American Red Cross Lifeguard Training and First Aid Certificate
American Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer
Other certifications required by local or state laws Certifications must be current
The pay rate for this positionis $10-13 per hour.
