This position is responsible for monitoring the town swimming pool to prevent accidents, in addition to performing routine maintenance and upkeep.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Monitors swimmers in order to insure safe swimming practices and prevent accidents.
Assists swimmers as needed.
Performs lifesaving, advanced lifesaving, first aid and CPR as necessary.
Picks up trash and debris from pool and deck area.
Assists with daily maintenance and cleaning of facility and pool equipment.
Assists with preparation for annual Health Department Pool Inspection.
Assists in the maintenance of pool facilities; monitors chemical levels.
Ensures the safe condition and operation of the pool deck when on duty; implements Town, department and regulatory policies and standards related to facility safety; identifies safety hazards and takes corrective action; reports safety hazards to supervisor.
Opens and closes pool as assigned.
Assist with training staff and volunteers as assigned.
Carries out job duties in a safe manner in accordance with all Town, department and regulatory policies; follows safety procedures.
Stores water toys, fins, kickboards and other supplies in designated area.
Attends the monthly lifeguard in-service trainings.
Assists with front desk duties as assigned.
Assists with program planning and implementation as assigned
Performs other related duties as assigned.

Relevant town codes and department regulations.
First-aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer.
Water safety practices.
City, county, state, and federal guidelines for pool operation.
Proper use of emergency water safety equipment such as backboard, flotation rescue aids, and shepherd’s hook.

An equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the job. Must be 15 years of age at time of employment.
Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:
• Current certifications in Lifeguarding, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, and First Aid by the American Red Cross.
Physical Demands: The work is typically performed while sitting, standing, or walking. The employee occasionally lifts light and heavy objects and must be able to distinguish between shades of color. The employee must also swim and assist drowning swimmers in a short amount of time. Employee must also be able to kneel/ squat, reach, and regularly move lane lines.
Work Environment: The work is typically performed indoors, outdoors and in water where the employee is exposed to noise, inclement weather, and irritating chemicals. The work may also be performed in an indoor aquatic facility. The employee may enter into pump and chemical rooms where mechanical equipment and various chemicals will be housed. The work requires the use of personal protective equipment such as safety goggles, protective clothing, and gloves.
