The Live in Caregiver is responsible for the care of a client 24 hours per day in the client's private setting. The Caregiver will stay in the client's home and be provided with private sleeping quarters. The primary responsibilities will be assisting the client with their activities of daily living: including such things as feeding, bathing and dressing. Other duties such as light housekeeping will not exceed more than 20% of the work performed on a daily or weekly basis. He/She is responsible for non-medical, in-home support services which provide for the comfort, safety, and general supervision of clients as well as home management services.

The ideal Caregiver has a minimum High School Diploma or GED. He/She must have reliable transportation, a valid driver's license and current automobile insurance. The applicant must be genuinely concerned about helping people and have high moral standards of honesty and integrity.

The following is a representative list of the duties and responsibilities associated with this position:
-- Assists the client in any or all approved personal care activities including but not limited to: bathing, dressing, toileting, (including adult briefs), grooming, oral hygiene, ambulation and feeding
-- Provides general attention to clients’ non-medical needs in accordance with an established Plan of Care
-- The Caregiver is expected to provide homemaking services, such as light housekeeping, laundry, meal planning and preparation; however it is agreed and understood that these duties will not exceed more than 20% of the work performed on a daily or weekly basis
-- Provides companionship for the client including, but not limited to: talking and listening, reading aloud, providing social and emotional support
-- Promotes the client’s mental alertness through involvement in activities of interest. Provides emotional support and promotes a sense of well-being
-- The Caregiver is required to be in the client's presence or vicinity at all times during the shift. If you are asked to leave the client to perform errands, the client must make arrangements with a family member or friend to be with the client while you perform the errands. If this is not possible, contact the Comfort Keepers office for guidance
-- Provides for a safe living environment for client with out infringing on the client's rights. The Caregiver must not offer any assistance or advice regarding financial matters, nor should the Caregiver discuss personal problems, religion or politics with the client
-- May prepare meals and assist with feeding as directed. Ensures that dishes are washed and kitchen is clean after each meal
-- Assists with care of pets by feeding or walking the pet
-- Reminds client to take self-administered medications
-- Observes and reports any changes in the client’s mental, physical, or emotional condition or home situation to immediate supervisor in a timely manner
-- Establishes and maintains effective communication and a professional relationship with clients, family members, and co-workers
-- Participates in in-service and continuing education programs, staff meetings, and client conferences as requested by immediate supervisor
-- Completes required documentation of services delivered and submits to office in a timely manner according to policy
-- Uses equipment and supplies safely and properly
-- Maintains confidentiality regarding client information
-- Understands and follows 24 Hour Personal Attendant procedures as outlined and trained on
