The Whamcloud Lustre Systems Engineer (LSE) works with the one of the nations premiere DOE Labs in Los Alamos, Mexico. Los Alamos (LANL) is one of the leading centers of high performance computational excellence in the United States. Work on science and technology projects, where challenges are solved for the environment, medicine, space, national security and technology. LANL is located in a community of 18,000, nestled in the Jemez Mountains of northern New Mexico. The views across the Rio Grande valley are breathtaking, the climate outstanding, and outdoor activities and cultural events abound.

This LSE works as part of the LANL systems team to provide superior Lustre support and services to lab user, helps integrate and test new Lustre based systems, develops user and systems productivity tools, and works as part of the LANL team.
Primary Duties / Responsibilities

Deploy, tune, and help oversee the smooth operation of Lustre.

Gather information when Lustre problems occur, and file bugs as needed for use of the Lustre bugfix support team.

Help test and integrate new Lustre software into the LANL Lustre environment.

Help users understand how best to use Lustre for application performance goals.

Perform and extend best-practice to patch, build, install and tune Lustre systems.

Support benchmark activities and provide recommendations for file systems improvements.

Communicate Lustre and Chroma feature roadmaps, and new features, in detail.

Champion LANL requirements within the Lustre community, including conference talks.

Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities)

Strong Verbal and written English communication skills.

Linux, storage, and networking knowledge.

Lustre installation and tuning knowledge a plus.

Analytical, presentation, and people skills.

Applications experience a plus.

Requirements (Education, Certification, Training, Experience and Citizenship)

Bachelors degree in computer science or related.

Fluent spoken and written English.

Work onsite at LANL in Los Alamos, New Mexico.

US Citizenship required. Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified matter.

Physical Demands / Work Environment

Up to10% domestic and international travel may be required.

Ability and desire to work as part of a geographically-distributed team.
