Main Purpose of Job
A Maintenance Chief I is the supervisory level of stationary engineering and building maintenance work. Licensed employees in this classification supervise stationary engineers and skilled and semi-skilled building maintenance workers. Non-licensed employees supervise skilled and semi-skilled building maintenance workers.
Employees in this classification receive general supervision from a higher-level Maintenance Chief, Maintenance Supervisor or administrator.
Positions are evaluated using the Supplemental Standards for Maintenance Chief/Supervisor Positions which allocates positions based on their job function or overall supervisory responsibility.
This position will be required to maintain the plumbing, heating, HVAC, and electrical systems and components of forty (40) Maryland Army National Guard facilities including 317 buildings, 1 operational Airfield, and four (4) Military training sites.
MINIMUM EDUCATION OR GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
Education: Completion of eighth grade.
Experience: Two years experience in the building maintenance or building construction trades including one year of responsibility for assigning, reviewing and approving the work of other building maintenance or building construction workers.
One year of the above experience must have involved working with military or law enforcement personnel in the RFMSS (Range Facility Management Support System) platform, or similar system, to ensure the proper coordination and support of ground usage (live fire range), building use, and maintenance issues. The employee will be required to be on-call to respond to RFMSS requests and involving facility emergency repairs.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
Successful candidates will be placed on the eligible list for a period of at least one year as Qualified, Better Qualified, or Best Qualified. The rating will be based on your training and experience as it relates to the needs of the position.
