Georgia Pacific's Plywood plant located in Emporia, VA is seeking qualified candidates for a Master Technician vacancy.

Job Description and Essential Functions of the Job include but not limited to:
  • Install, configure, test, maintain, monitor, and troubleshoot end-user system
  • Performing on site diagnosis, analysis and resolution of problems for various end users;
  • Recommend and implement corrective software/hardware solutions;
  • Construct, test and install customized configurations on various operating systems and platforms;
  • Repair and/or replace defective equipment or parts using hand or equipment;
  • Complete and/or prepare documentation on instances of hardware repair, installation, failure and/or removal;
  • Evaluate and recommend hardware/software products for purchase and installation
  • Overall responsibilities for the operation and maintenance of the new lathe, stacker, and all other associated equipment

Basic Requirements: Successful candidates must:
  • Must be self-motivated, self-driven, action oriented and operates with a sense of urgency
  • Possess a willingness to learn, ability to adapt quickly to change, good multi-tasking skills
  • Possess advanced electrical and mechanical skills and experience in both crafts
  • Must possess maintenance experience
  • Possess basic computer skills
  • PLC knowledge
  • Must be willing to embrace the 5S concepts (good housekeeping is a must)
  • Ability to embrace the team concept - must work well with others; share the same vision
  • Demonstrate operator ownership - hold yourself and others accountable
  • Willingness to share knowledge
  • Ability to diagnose problems, exercise critical thinking skills to trouble-shoot an issue
  • Good communication and listening skills
  • Ability to work any shift and overtime
  • Will be required to rotate assignments from the lathe,stacker and other associated equipment.
  • *A two year commitment required –
  • agree that you will not bid out of the lathe team for two years. This agreement does not constitute an employment contract
  • Must be able to obtain passport within 4 weeks of placement and be willing to travel abroad
  • Prior experience in an industrial/manufacturing environment required

Preferred Skills:
  • Working knowledge of all machine centers in the plywood operations
  • MP2 experience
  • Experience using MS Excel and MS Word

Rate of Pay and Work Schedule:
Pre – Start up: $24.00
$25.23 when equipment starts up(approx 6 mos)

Note: Rotating 12 hour shift schedule(daily overtime after 12 hours or 40 hours weekly). Overtime will be required as necessary.
