Description/Job Summary The Metal Worker Class A position incorporates skills of several skilled trades such as a Sheet Metal Worker, Iron Worker, Coppersmith, Pipe Fitter and Plumber.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • All position electric welding or heli-arc welding on aluminum, steel, and stainless
  • Solders neatly and proficiently with gas torch
  • Cuts metal to dimensions, contour or bevel
  • Brazes brass to steel, copper to steel, cast iron to steel or any of the aforementioned to stainless
  • Demonstrate knowledge of steam, water, and air systems
  • Unblock lines, repairs leaking lines, valves, flanges, and other fittings
  • Install, maintain, and repair all types of valves
  • Install, test, troubleshoot, and repair disc, thermostatic, float-thermostatic, inverted bucket and impulse steam traps
  • Fabricates and erects from prints, sketches or oral instructions, ducts, transition pieces, vessels, girders, tanks, or other steel or sheet metal work
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Skills Must have:
  • knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within the trade
  • basic arithmetic skills, including calculating offsets, including for miter pipe and or fitting
Must be:
  • qualified to operate forklift, boom lift, and other mobile industrial vehicles
Must be able to:
  • work within precise limits and standards of accuracy
  • set up and operate drill press
  • use all power and hand tools normal to the trade
  • weld in all positions
  • read and interpret blueprints, sketches, fabrications drawings, submittals, and product specifications
  • work metal shaping machines
  • perform complex welding of steel, iron, and other metals with stick, tig and mig methods
  • walk, stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb constantly throughout the shift
  • reach, bend, twist, rotate, push and pull frequently
  • work rotating shifts, holidays, weekends, and overtime as needed
  • lift 25 to 50 pounds regularly
  • use hands and arms to reach, push, pull, lift, carry, and manipulate materials and tools
  • climb up and down ladders

Required Experience
  • A minimum of 3 previous years of experience in the welding trade or in a related trade is required

Required Education
  • High school diploma or GED required

Required Qualifications
  • Must be at least 18 years of age or older
  • Must own a complete set of tools normal to the trade
