Organization Overview: The Midwest Energy Efficiency Alliance (MEEA) is a regional membership-based non-profit organization based in Chicago with a mission to advance energy efficiency in the Midwest to support sustainable economic development and environmental preservation. MEEA is committed to be a collective voice for energy efficiency at a national, regional and state levels; serves as a clearinghouse to identify, evaluate and create successful programs and market assessments for the region; and fosters communication on effective energy policy.

Position Summary: The Membership Manager works under the direction of the Deputy Director to oversee MEEA’s membership program. In addition to membership responsibilities, the Manager will have a role in MEEAs internal and external marketing and brand development and assist with MEEA events, including the Midwest Energy Solutions Conference and Annual Meeting of the Membership.


Membership (70%)

Manage MEEAs membership functions, including member communications, dues invoicing, accounts receivables, outreach to prospective members and ensuring MEEA provides a strong value for our members

Maintain working relationship with MEEA members and assist with the planning and coordination of membership cultivation activities and events

Complete all communications to MEEA members under the direction of MEEA’s Deputy Director, including quarterly touch program, email and social media outreach and organizational announcements

Maintain membership database and manage invoicing process for new and renewing members

Prepare and mail year-end and mid-year letters to all members in conjunction with the membership invoice cycles

Lead manager of the organization’s Constituent Relationship Management database, content input and its use for membership development

Participate in MEEAs Membership Committee

Marketing (20%)

Manage membership promotion and marketing materials, including membership sections of MEEA website and all printed and electronic membership materials

Responsible for the development and distribution of MEEAs communication materials including the MEEA Minute(monthly newsletter); MEEA Unplugged (blog); Twitter; LinkedIn and Facebook

Work with Deputy Director and Marketing and Meetings Manager on MEEAs internal and external PR campaigns

Assist in updating and managing MEEA branding program, focused on positioning the organization and increasing the value for members

Event Planning (10%)

Manage MEEA’s Annual Meeting of the Membership with MEEA Executive Director and Deputy Director

Assist with logistical coordination of other MEEA events, workshops and trainings

Serve as main point of contact with members in sponsorship opportunities and recognition for the Midwest Energy Solutions conference and other events


At least 4-6 years experience in a nonprofit organization or for a for-profit business in a membership, sales or customer service

Experience with CRM development and management

Familiarity with developing and managing marketing and PR programs, preferred

Bachelor’s degree required

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, PowerPoint and Excel

Experience with web content management preferred (HTML, Drupal and WordPress)

High-level writing and speaking skills

Strong initiative and self direction required

Orientation to working as a member of a team in a small-office environment

Ability to manage multiple projects and responsibilities

Ability to adapt to shifting priorities
