Sr. Manager, Enterprise Infrastructure, is a senior level management position within IT Services. The individual will be a member of the IT Operations team and will provide technology vision, strategy, and leadership in the planning, design, and implementation of enterprise-wide infrastructure for Matson. Matson is transforming its technology infrastructure in support of its IT Strategy to reduce operating costs and to support business growth and expansion. This technology evolution in its essence aims to incorporate, adapt, and leverage the following significant technology shifts for maximum business gain:

Architecture 2.0, which refreshes the distributed systems architecture stack to further improve performance and reduce costs in the target systems platform.

Virtualization and cloud computing to lower capital costs, drive efficiencies in operations, and to aid business agility and scalability.

VoIP telecommunications technology to reduce costs, address obsolescence risks, and enhance collaboration capabilities across the company’s distributed workforce.

Mobility to advance the ability to conduct business from anywhere and at anytime in a secure manner using the rapidly growing capabilities of smartphones and tablets.

Unified Communications and Collaboration (UCC), including social media, to improve productivity and to promote greater collaboration internally and with external customers and partners.

The Sr. Manager of Enterprise Infrastructure should provide the vision, confidence, and leadership to drive these emerging and growing technology initiatives, and deliver innovative and world-class solutions paired with business opportunities for advancement. The individual should be a highly effective business and technology leader capable of developing and implementing global strategies that are in tandem with Matson’s operating and strategic plans.

Two principal systems and network engineers, two senior systems and network engineers, and two systems and network engineers report directly into this position.

Specific accountabilities:
Responsible for the day-to-day management of the telecommunications, networking, and computing infrastructure for the company. Ensures a stable, reliable, secure, and cost-effective technology infrastructure for the company. Establishes annual operations objectives and assignments and delegates assignments to direct reports;

Interacts with all levels of users in the company, including senior executives. He or she will serve as the escalation point for any problems related to infrastructure and be responsible for the overall performance of the infrastructure. Sets enterprise level service level agreements (SLA) to properly monitor support and services; follows best practices related to service management (problem management, change management, performance management, capacity management, etc.); follows best practices related to information security; publishes and presents performance metrics to IT senior management; participates in the development and testing of disaster recovery plans for the infrastructure components to ensure business continuity in the event of a disaster; provides guidance and direction to less experienced staff.

Aligns the infrastructure operations of the company with industry benchmarks and best practices and implement capabilities that materially improve the competitiveness and operations of the company.

Establishes and assures adherence to all project budgets, schedules, work plans, and performance requirements. Achieving this expected level of performance will require the candidate to have advanced skills in planning and managing multiple simultaneous projects, and collaborating successfully with peers and others in the company.

Essential job functions:
Actively manage all infrastructure support activities related to problem management, change management, disaster recovery, and systems performance; provide 24X7 support for the infrastructure; administer the managed hosting services vendor arrangement; assess support processes, recommend, and put into practice procedures that will improve the availability, stability, and reliability of the infrastructure; manage security for all infrastructure components; meet annual SOX and PCI compliance requirements; work with vendors and service providers to ensure services are being provided in an efficient and effective manner; implement objectives and strategies to effectively support all internal users; Directly or indirectly assist other groups in IT services to help them complete their specific tasks; Follow and enforce IT corporate standards and policies; Select products and services and put in place standards, methods and procedures that will maximize benefits from the company’s investment in technology products and services; grow the professional capabilities of the team through internal development and external recruitment of top talent; manage the budget for IT Infrastructure.

Play a leadership role in implementing new and emerging technologies that could lead to the improvement of profitability, productivity and efficiency of company operations. Recommend and initiate programs that will effectively integrate these new products and services into the company’s technology environments. Develop standards and procedures to ensure that all service levels related to IT infrastructure are met or exceeded.

Participate on the IT management team in driving the cultural transitions required in driving an innovation oriented approach to IT. Creating a business plan in alignment with Matson’s business goals, execute the governance processes to ensure initiatives are run properly, sell this disciplined approach throughout IT, encouraging behaviors necessary to ensure alignment. Help manage the integrated business plan deliverables, creating an environment of passion and accountability.

Essential skills and experience:
Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university or equivalent technical certification; An MBA degree is desirable.

Strong background in infrastructure technologies, experience in a similar senior management role in a multi billion dollar global corporation or evidence of distinguished performance in leading enterprise-wide technology and process transformations.

Experience in infrastructure and operations outsourcing, complex contract negotiations, and vendor management.

Proven and significant communication and leadership skills, and must be aggressive in the pursuit of excellence with a proven track record of hiring and developing high performance teams, and evidence of collaborating successfully with others to execute critical infrastructure projects in a fast paced environment. The individual will have demonstrated leadership in staff development, aligning and building effective groups, and growing the long-term capabilities of the organization.

Familiarity with ITIL and other best-in-class process frameworks, and a record of successfully implementing them to advance the maturity and quality of services provided.

Special Skills - The incumbent must be a self-motivated individual, able to communicate effectively with all levels throughout the company. Must have a strong ability to manage a team of technical staff members who specialize in infrastructure technologies. Implement policies and procedures regarding how problems are identified, received, documented, distributed and corrected. Evaluate new information systems products and services and suggest changes to existing products or services to improve the availability, reliability, performance, and stability of the infrastructure. Must be willing to work flexible hours when required to accomplish tasks during non-business hours.

Project Management – Experience in defining and achieving organizational buy-in on direction. Exercises sound judgment in identifying and resolving issues. Assists the project manager in tracking project progress and in making use of team member’s time. Ensures methodology is rigorously followed. Ensure teamwork is always encouraged.

Interpersonal – Communicates well, verbally and in writing, with peers, management and the user community; focuses on facilitating and resolving conflict; maintains confidentiality; listens to others without interrupting; keeps emotions under control.

Technology – Possess sufficient knowledge of various hardware, operating and systems software, and communications technologies including Linux, Intel-based rack and blade servers, Windows 2003/2008 Server; Storage systems and applications including RAID, NAS, SAN, NetApp storage, tape backup hardware devices, Veritas backup software; system monitoring tools such as HP OpenView, Foglight, BigBrother; Network and security products including Cisco routers, Cisco switches, MPLS, TCP/IP, SMTP, SNMP, DHCP, WINS; File transfer, messaging, and Email applications including Microsoft Exchange 2003/2010, FTP, SFTP, MQ Series; Security tools including Cisco and Checkpoint firewalls, Cisco VPN, Network Associates/McAfee products including EPolicy Orchestrator; 802.11x wireless communications; Knowledge of VoIP telephone systems and technologies including those from Avaya and Cisco; Knowledge of videoconferencing products and technologies including Polycom; Knowledge of server and desktop virtualization using VMware products.
