Under the direct supervision of the Manager, Laboratory AGP, the Medical Lab Tech is responsible for conducting routine and complex biological procedures and accurately documenting some test results.
Receives and processes various biological specimens in accordance with established procedures.
Performs routine and some complex biological procedures using standard and sophisticated instrumentation and equipment in accordance with established procedures.
Aids in proper reagent and chemical solution preparation, labeling and storage.
Evaluates validity of test results using quality control standards, instrumentation function checks, and/or department policies and procedures. Brings problems to attention of supervisor or senior medical technologist.
Evaluates and records test results in timely and accurate manner.
Initiates appropriate corrective action to alleviate any deficiencies of quality assurance standards or established specified limits.
Consistently coordinates all work with co-workers to achieve maximum productivity and efficiency during the assigned shift. Strives to be an effective and productive member of the institution.
Performs and documents preventive maintenance measures on department's equipment and instruments.
Provides general training to laboratory assistants, medical technology students and others under training.
Always shows an awareness of proper safety procedures.
Assumes personal responsibility for on-going continuing education and professional development.
Provides instruction and explanation to patients and/or family member when performing point-of-care testing procedures (e.g. Activated Clotting Time, Template Bleeding Time).
Completes all mandatory in-service programs required within stated time frame.
Follows system and department policies and procedures with special attention to attendance and punctuality, confidentiality, dress code and display of ID badge, and safety.
Completes mandatory education and training in order to maintain organization and department specific competencies and requirements. Maintains applicable certification/licensure. Maintains required BLS.
Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications:
Associate's degree in medical laboratory technician. National certification as Medical Laboratory Technician. Knowledge and understanding of computer functions. Written and verbal communication skills.
