The Indiana National Guard is a joint-force organization with 65 Army National Guard installations around the state, and facilities at Camp Atterbury Joint Maneuver Training Center and Muscatatuck Urban Training Center. Additionally, there are two Air Wings, the 181st Intelligence Wing based in Terre Haute, and the 122nd Air Wing based in Ft. Wayne.
As of April 2012, this combined force numbers approximately 15,265. The Joint Forces Headquarters is located at Stout Field on the west side of Indianapolis. The sitting Adjutant General is Maj. Gen. R. Martin Umbarger, who has held the position since March 11, 2004.
The Indiana Army and Air National Guard are reserve components of the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force. During times of national emergency, National Guard members may be called into active federal service by the President of the United States.
During peace times, the National Guard is commanded by the governor. In it's "state" role, the National Guard assists local law enforcement agencies during emergencies at the direction of the governor. The distribution of soldiers, equipment and facilities across the state allows the National Guard to respond quickly and efficiently to emergencies statewide
Hire Salary: $10.88 hour; $21,216 annually
This position serves as Maintenance Repair at the Tyndall-Moorhead National Guard Armory at 711 N. Pennsylvania St., Indianapolis. Performs cleaning, general maintenance, and minor repairs to building(s), equipment and grounds including parking lots.
Representative duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
Performs general cleaning duties including, but not limited to dusting, mopping, stripping, waxing, buffing floors; vacuuming carpets and upholstery; emptying non-hazardous and recyclable waste containers; washing walls, windows, and mirrors; sanitizing and cleaning restrooms
Performs grounds maintenance work including, but not limited to mowing, trimming, fertilizing, leaf removal, trash pick-up, snow and ice removal, and minor repair of parking areas, roads and walks
Performs preventive maintenance on air-conditioning units and heating systems;
Maintains safe armory conditions by repairing and replacing broken doors, latches, locks, window glass, etc.
Repairs and/or replaces leaky faucets and toilets, plugged drains, burned out light bulbs, broken electrical switches, outlets and light fixtures; minor repairs to furniture; etc.
One (1) year experience in building or maintenance trades.
Substitution: One (1) semester or one (1) quarter of a recognized vocational training program in building or maintenance trades may sub for all of the required experience. (proof must accompany application.)
Must have a valid Indiana Driver’s License
Valid High School Diploma or GED
