Maintenance Specialist IV
The Maintenance Specialist IV performs moderately complex maintenance and repair work in several maintenance and building construction trades. Work involves maintaining and repairing refrigeration type devices in buildings, utility systems, stationary equipment, and/or the operation of motorized equipment; requisitioning material and supplies; and maintaining accurate records. Works under general supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Performs, but not limited to, maintenance, repairs, and construction in the areas of refrigeration and air conditioning area, and may serve as a Team Leader in Supervisors absent. The Maintenance Specialist IV works under the supervision of the Maintenance Superivor I, Miantenance & Operations Supervisor and Plant Maintenance Manager. Completion of work requires use of established methods and/or techniques and decisions are simple and based on well-defined guidelines. The Maintenance Specialist IV has some financial responsibility and is accountable for assigned property.
Essential Job Functions:
Performs skilled refrigeration/electrical repairs, trouble-shooting and construction in a safe and professional manner.
Performs skilled chiller and boiler Diagnostic, repairs and maintenance.
Performs skilled kitchen equipment repairs and maintenance.
Performs skilled Air Conditioner repairs, installation, and construction in Buildings to provide comfort levels. Drives vehicles and operates equipment in a safe and proper manner with no significant errors. Maintains state driving qualifications. Driving a state vehicle is an essential part of job duties. Any violation, which makes an employee unqualified to operate a state vehicle, may be grounds for termination. Will assist in other Maintenance Departments as required.
Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency’s obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location.
Knowledge Skills Abilities:
Repairs boilers and Chillers.
Works with the refrigeration Maintenance Technicians I and II.
Assigned various job tasks to insure schedule are met.
Communicates information to spervisor of progress and/or problems to Maintenance & Operation Supervisor and Plant Maintenance Manager.
Orders and maintains ongoing inventories for general maintenance and approved work orders in the refrigeration and the power plant shops.
Registration or Licensure Requirements:
Will be required to obtain a certification within 1 year for Universal EPA Certification up to Class A license.
Initial Selection Criteria:
Graduation from an accredited high school or GED.
Two (2) years of experience in Refrigeration building
maintenance and repair.
Three (3) years experience in Refrigeration equipment, large chiller repairs operation/maintenance and boiler repairs with knowledge of electrical or mechanical equipment.
Completion of an accredited certificate program (at least 26 semester hours) in air conditioning, heating, refrigeration, electrical technology or a related field may substitute for Two (2) years of the required work experience.
