Position Summary: Provide for the timely and proper maintenance of the processing and/or packaging equipment and/or the physical plant and utilities of the facility on either an emergency or planned basis. Direct the activities of various skilled employees by assigning work, monitoring those assignments, and approving the repairs made. Support plant through troubleshooting by understanding and following PLC code and ladder logic. Integrate automation solutions by developing, testing,and implementing PLC code. Have the ability to manage and execute small projects adhering to time, scope and budget considerations.Participate in the planning and the implementation of capital, extraordinary maintenance, and routine maintenance budgets. Maintain appropriate relationships to attain the goals of productivity, safety, cost, and quality. Support and promote food safety and quality program initiatives within the plant environment.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

1.

Direct activities to complete timely emergency repairs, routine repairs, and preventative maintenance to the production machinery in the plant so that productivity is influenced as little as possible by downtime and that change-overs occur as smoothly as possible.

Supervise and monitor the completion of capital projects which improve productivity and plant conditions.

3.

Evaluate the plant operation from a mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, or structural perspective for the purpose of suggesting modification to the equipment that will allow better flow of material, higher productivity and quality, greater safety or more efficient use of utilities.

4.

Maintain vendor contacts, following up on lower cost or better delivery providers. Place orders for parts, services and other needs, following proper procedures. Insure that proper levels of repair parts and other supplies are on hand. Act as a liaison with various governmental agencies such as the are fire department; maintain licenses in force.

5.

Provide ideas and other input into the yearly capital, extraordinary maintenance, and routine maintenance budget process, aid in the implementation of the budgets during the fiscal year.

6.

Influences all staff to report food safety issues to personnel with authority to initiate immediate corrective actions.

7.

Support maintenance team in troubleshooting and root cause analysis through PLC code knowledge, following ladder logic and basic PLC understading to identify problems not obvious through other troubleshooting measures.

8.

Develop simple programming routines in PLCs for design improvements, instrumentation changes, and new equipment integration. Understand and execute basic principles of I/O checkout.

9.

Understand process instrumentation and how it is integrated into the manufacturing operation. Aide in configuration, troubleshooting, and replacement of instrumentation in process and identify opportunities for new or better technology for applications.

10.

Will assume responsibilities as designated to provide coverage in the absence of key personnel.

Decision-Making Authority/Accountability Level:

Participate in management meetings, perform studies and tests as directed, prepare reports as directed.

This role has responsibility for all direct reports and is highly involved in development, hire, fire, and discipline decisions as well as being the first contact for any employee grievances. This role is also responsible for the achievement of production goals and meeting production quotas for customers. Exercises judgment in relation to prioritizing the workflows and understanding the scheduled needs. Errors in decisions could impact customer relationships and financial loss to the company.

Minimum Knowledge, Skill, and Ability Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent. Three to five years experience in various areas of maintenance operations (i.e. mechanical, electrical, hydraulic or structural). Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Understanding of PLC functionality and comfortable with ladder logic programming, preferably experience in Allen Bradley PLCs.
