Two Seasonal Positions are available.
This position performs semi-skilled and limited skilled labor under immediate to general supervision. Performs a variety of duties to include mowing, landscaping, trimming shrubbery, outdoor litter removal at various recreation facilities, emptying garbage, sweeping, mopping, cleaning bathrooms, general carpentry and general plumbing. Other duties as assigned. Must be able to work primarily outdoors in varying weather conditions. Must be able to follow written and oral instructions. Some weekend work may be required. Minimum age of 18. Must possess a valid driver's license from NC. Must possess a high school diploma or GED.
Mows grass, weed-eats, distributes mulch, sows and fertilizes grass.
Operates lawnmowers and tractors.
Maintains buildings and facilities; cleans bathrooms, mops, sweeps, clean windows, strips and waxes floors, and changes light bulbs.
Repairs buildings and facilities; replaces protective padding on gym walls; designs, fabricates, and installs work on special project; repairs tables and chairs.
Installs, maintains, and repairs electrical and plumbing systems; performs carpentry repair and construction duties.
Picks up trash in parks.
Installs drainage systems for parks and athletic fields.
Assists in the repair and maintenance of department equipment.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Qualifications:
Ability to read, write and perform basic mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.
Possession of a valid driver's license issued by the State of North Carolina for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
Knowledge of the standards, materials, techniques, and equipment used in the maintenance and repair of a parks and recreations building and facilities.
Knowledge of the installation of playground equipment.
Knowledge in the operation of weedeaters and chainsaws.
Knowledge of department and city policies and procedures and relevant federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
Skill in the operation of such equipment as a mowers and tractors.
Skill in performing basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical installation, repair, and maintenance duties.
Skill in oral and written communication.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, or walking. The employee frequently lifts light and occasionally heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, and must be able to distinguish between shades of color.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work is typically performed outdoors, and occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee may be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, and irritating chemicals, and requires the use of protective devices such as masks, gloves, or goggles.
