Position Summary:
The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, one of the nation's top five public research universities, has an enrollment of more than 28,000 students and a faculty of 3,100. Carolina's success in private fundraising both reflects and supports its outstanding education and research programs, academic and athletic achievements, service mission, historic beautiful campus and remarkable students, faculty, staff and alumni. The University Development Office's dedicated unit for Scholarships, Student Aid, and Access seeks a full time major gifts officer to help design, implement and monitor fundraising activities for student aid and several campus-wide initiatives related to college access and admissions. The major gifts officer will be focused on growing support for the University's college access and achievement programs in addition to fundraising for student aid in general. Travel will be required.

Principal Functions:
*
Direct Fundraising: Responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding prospects to support and grow the Carolina College Advising Corps (CCAC), the Carolina Student Transfer Excellence Program (C-STEP) and other student aid/achievement initiatives.

Plan and conduct special and public events to promote and grow the Carolina College Advising Corps (CACC), the Carolina Student Transfer Excellence Program (C-STEP) and other student aid/achievement initiatives.

Carry out other such responsibilities as may be assigned by the Director of Development for Scholarships, Student Aid and Access.

Education Requirements: A Bachelor's degree is required.

Qualification & Experience Requirements:

Mastery of the basic principles and techniques of successful fundraising as they pertain to the identification, cultivation, closure and stewardship of individual prospects

*
Exceptional written and oral communication skills

*
Ability to interact effectively in a comprehensive, research university setting

*
Comfortable working with senior university development professionals and campus leaders to achieve programmatic goals

*
Experience in basic public relations including promotions and marketing activities

*
A commitment to helping students achieve college access and success

*
Integrity and sincerity

*
An outgoing, enthusiastic personality with a strong drive to be successful

*
Knowledge of the state of North Carolina

*
Willingness to travel frequently
