KPLU - Pacific Lutheran University GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Major Gifts Officer develops and maintains a portfolio of 150+ active major donors and prospects and works to increase annual, special, and ultimate contributions to KPLU. This position provides research, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship activities for individuals and foundations and conducts personal visits with donors. This position splits its time between the KPLU Seattle and Tacoma offices. Reports to the Director of Individual Giving.

SALARY:
Exempt; $55,000 - $60,000 per year, DOE + excellent benefits

WORK SCHEDULE:
FT; Monday - Friday; 8am - 5pm. Nights and weekends required. This position splits its time between the KPLU Seattle and Tacoma offices.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Develops and implements activities to advance individuals in portfolio through all aspects of the gift cycle: initiating contact, developing appropriate cultivation strategies, drafting proposals, moving potential donors to solicitation and closure, providing stewardship.
  • Works with Director to identify, research, solicit, cultivate, steward, and communicate with major donor prospects.
  • Works with Director to identify and cultivate estate and planned gifts.
  • Develops and maintains schedule of major donor cultivation activities. Records cultivation activities using a variety of tools.
  • Prepares regular reports and analyses to monitor progress of major gift cultivation and contributions. Organizes, researches, and provides recommendations for major donor qualifying policies and processes.
  • Produces communication materials to support major donor cultivation, solicitation and stewardship activities.
  • Participates actively in the annual development and marketing plan for the major gifts and development department.
  • Attends meetings and conferences as program representative.
  • Assists with events, pledge drives, and general membership programs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills, both verbal and written, by phone and in person.
  • Demonstrated ability to build successful relationships.
  • Ability to work professionally, collegially, and effectively with donors or other constituents, colleagues, and the general public.
  • Ability to work independently, problem solve, take initiative, and handle multiple projects and deadlines in an organized and professional manner.
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented setting and a commitment to providing quality service.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Ability to work remotely and from multiple locations, including the Seattle and Tacoma offices.
  • Must be available to work on nights and weekends for events.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 3 or more years in professional fundraising with experience cultivating donor relationships and soliciting and securing major, ultimate, and/or special gifts.
  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Finalist candidates must satisfactorily complete pre-employment background checks.
  • PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Familiarity with and appreciation of public radio programming.
    • Knowledge of fundraising databases.
