Presently we are seeking a talented Major Gifts Officer for the West Coast to support our Director of Development.


Build, and manage a portfolio of 150 major gift prospects and donors in the Bay Area capable of making gifts at the $50,000+ level

Support the Director of Development and Chief Strategy Officer with planning and execution of Major Gifts Campaign including strategy, cultivation, asks

Build and manage long-term relationships with donors and prospects, identifying, cultivating and stewarding their interests

Conduct prospect research and drive qualification and ratings process for West Coast donor prospects

Provide primary staff support and guide the efforts of the Bay Area Advisory Council and the Technology Advisory Council

Act as primary liaison and conduct outreach to independent schools

Using sound fundraising principles, develop long-term cultivation and stewardship strategies that utilize the expertise of Common Sense Media staff and leadership in deepening donors’ commitment to the organization

Assist in planning and executing major donor cultivation and stewardship events

Maintain accurate donor records and track contact in moves management system

Prepare periodic funding reports for the Board of Directors and other internal constituencies

Manage and motivate staff members to achieve personal and professional goal


Bachelors degree required, masters preferred

At least 3-5 years successful experience in major donor fundraising preferably in an entrepreneurial environment

Record of accomplishment with direct solicitations preferred

Successful experience cultivating relationships and developing solicitation strategies for high-net worth individuals and philanthropic leaders

Self-starter with excellent organizational skills, able to balance many tasks at once

Knowledge of Bay Area philanthropic and non-profit landscape required; fundraising experience related to K-12 education, families and youth, media and technology preferred

Outstanding, presentation and written communication skills
