Pacific Biosciences is seeking a talented, driven, well-rounded and experienced Sr. Manager to managing the procurement organization in Menlo Park, California. The ideal candidate possesses the skill, vision, and drive necessary to assist in the development and implementation of a scalable “world class” materials management strategy for the company. They must also have a passion for Pacific Bioscience’s relevant technology, experience in all aspects of purchasing and supplier management; with strong interpersonal skills for dealing with all levels of the organization.
The qualified candidate has demonstrated the ability to pursue innovative procurement solutions based on an accurate assessment of business requirements. A successful track record of driving the procurement process, from supplier selection through long-term supplier management. The candidate must also have demonstrated the ability to implement and run continuous improvement programs on systems deployed to keep them current and relevant.
This position reports to the Senior Director of Supply Chain.
Responsible for planning and implementing activities related to the material purchase, material control, and inventory control.
Directs and controls the activities of a broad functional area within the company having overall responsibility for purchasing planning, budgeting, implementing and maintaining costs, methods, and employees.
Proven track record of people management.
Experienced in ISO 9001 and ISO 13485 requirements and implementation.
Ensures materials are ordered and in stock to meet company requirements, while maintaining acceptable inventory levels.
Compile, evaluate, and monitor supplier scorecard results (including monitoring the financial health of the supplier)
Control and coordinate communications with the supplier. Conduct periodic business reviews. Drive supplier-specific initiatives (inventory, delivery, change orders, cost reduction, etc.) and resolve issues
Communicate roadmap to the supplier and share supplier development plans.
Drive continuous improvement and outstanding quality performance. Develop and drive “Best in Class” initiatives.
Negotiate contracts and ensure that contract (and any other applicable) obligations and/or milestones are tracked and met
Participate in Next Generation Product support, including; supply chain strategy, new supplier qualification, and consulting agreements.
Facilitate standardization (where appropriate) across Pacific Biosciences.
Participates with other senior managers to establish corporate strategic plans and objectives.
Regularly interacts with executives and/or major customers. Interactions normally involve controversial situations, customer negotiations, or influencing and persuading other senior level managers.
BS/BA required; MBA or grad work preferred
Minimum of 10 years’ experience as a buyer in an ISO certified organization, experience in a Life Science environment working with consumables is a plus
Preferred commodity experience: optics, lasers/lamps, PCBs/computers, fabrication, computers, contract mfg (outsourcing) or ME experience may be desirable (technical aptitude)
Ideal candidate has purchasing/ERP experience and demonstrated results in materials shortage management, inventory control, SAP experience a plus.
Should have negotiations experience and ideally formal training
Understands and is passionate about scorecard and metrics-based approaches to supply base management
Understands contracts and has lead and negotiated various types of deals with multi-party stakeholders
Experience in worldwide sourcing, particularly in low cost regions such as SE Asia and Central Europe
Proven cost reduction track record preferred
Program management skill’s preferred
