Position: Manager Business Intelligence - TX #2337
Location: Houston TX
The Manager, Business Intelligence leads a team of analysts responsible for America's market research, analysis, competitive intelligence gathering and strategic guidance for the RPA business. The function is critical in identifying opportunities and risks in the market before they become obvious and gaining a perspective on developments and events aimed at yielding a competitive edge. BI encompasses all energy markets that influence the business activities from oil and gas to midstream, refining, petrochemicals, plastics and other key derivatives.
Develop and maintain a view of the market environment, including supply/demand, operating rates, and price forecasts for Refining and Base Chemicals. Such view will serve as the basis for the Long Term Plan and Budget processes. Assist with other aspects of the Plan and Budget as needed. Facilitate development of long and short term strategy for projects and products.
Monitor the business activities of major competitors, analyze their results and identify their strategies.
Develop knowledge base of the Refining and Petrochemicals markets via networking, courses, conferences, participation in industry groups, etc. Contact for consultants and other resources.
Manage, monitor and analyze internal and external indicators impacting the refining and petrochemicals industry.
Assist in presentation development and delivery as needed. Deliver market and competitive intelligence presentation to RPA monthly business results meeting.
Complete special studies as directed by the VP - Strategy & Business Development and the CEO.
Regular communication and data exchange with Europe for market intelligence and research.
Incumbent must understand both operations and commercial sides of refining & petrochemicals businesses.
Incumbent has interaction with business analysts, commercial managers, VP-Strategy & Business Development, other VPs and the CEO.
Developing a strong external contact network with outside industry experts for intelligence gathering and special assignments is critical.
Information developed by the incumbent is regularly presented to management and utilized for decision-making.
Planning process coordination is required with BUs, executives and strategy groups.
Communication and coordination required with other branches in order to contribute to and maintain consistency with group planning assumptions.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Undergraduate Degree in Engineering, Business and/or Finance. Advanced degree preferred.
Minimum fifteen (15) years of experience in the energy industry, including refining and petrochemicals.
Advanced knowledge of commercial and business strategy.
Advanced analytical, behavioral and communication skills.
A proven track record to succeed and produce results.
1. Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Business and/or Finance. Advanced degree preferred.
2. 10 + years of experience in the energy industry, including refining and petrochemicals.
3. Business Planning or Business Intelligence experience in the energy industry.
4. Local to Houston or close enough for a short easy move.
