Provides leadership and establishes direction for engineering teams inclusive of Engineering Project Managers, Engineers, Programmers, and Engineering Technicians. Responsible for organizing the teams and providing leadership and management to accomplish the overall objectives of the company and functions as the technical process owner of their area of responsibility. Responsibilities include project championing, project prioritization, and capital & expense budget management.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Directs the activities of and provides priorities for the Project Managers, Engineers, and Configuration management. Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the assigned units.
Responsible for budget preparation, including salaries, spending, savings, and capital.
Assists in developing the technology strategy for manufacturing.
Seeks new manufacturing technologies and helps establish and maintain vendor relationships consistent with existing policies and procedures and in coordination with the Strategic Purchasing initiatives.
Incorporates business objectives into departmental and individual objectives.
Responsible for manufactured product quality, conformance to Good Manufacturing Practices and ISO 9001 and for promoting continuous improvements.
Carries out managerial responsibilities according to the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
Facilitates the establishment of annual team goals and objectives as related to the manufacturing objectives.
Interface with Research and Development with respect to product design for manufacturing feasibility (dimension, tolerance, design and material).
Interface with Production Supervision, Tool Design, and Tool & Die, and Maintenance with respect to manufacturing method, tooling, and equipment.
Sets standards for routings for new products.
Contacts and reviews projects with vendors as necessary.
Interfaces with Quality Control concerning critical aspects for inspection procedures and gages on new products.
Evaluates existing machinery and makes recommendations for upgrading or replacement.
Directs and controls cost reduction projects and implements manufacturing methods that will reduce part cost.
Responsible for developing HSE policies and procedures for the company.
Maintains clinical records and case management of workers’ compensation cases.
Identifies occupational hazards and develops risk management plans to provide a safe work environment.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
B.S. in Mechanical or Biomechanical Engineering, Electrical, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or other appropriate engineering discipline preferred.
Master’s degree preferred.
5 to 7 years of experience in manufacturing engineering to include the development of new processes, products, product costs, cost reductions, capital justifications, and capital equipment acquisition. Candidates with a Master’s degree only need five years of experience.
Must have working knowledge of regulatory areas, including OSHA, ISO14001, Workers' Compensation, ADA, FMLA, Short Term Disability/Long Term Disability.
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing skills preferred.
Six Sigma or Lean Certification preferred.
Must be proficient will all MS Office applications.
Knowledge of CAD/CAM packages preferred.
Knowledge of Minitab or SPSS preferred.
Proficiency with SAP and PLM systems.
