General Summary:
Manage and lead all corporate events (e.g. leadership off site meetings, corporate meetings, national sales meeting, etc.). Partner with Public Relations manager to serve as subject matter expert in planning external events (e.g. grand openings, etc.).

Plan and execute yearly internal fundraising events at the Store Support Center and Distribution Centers for the FamilyHope Team Member Foundation and Community Support Campaign.

Partner with internal departments to assist in planning meetings and events.

Work collaboratively within the Communications team to assist in general communication around events (memos, invitations, posters, articles, etc.).

Manager, Events and Special Projects is an extremely diversified, high profile position and incumbents must embrace Family Dollar’s store-centric commitment to customers, customer service and sales.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities



Strategically develop programs and events that reinforce Company initiatives.


Develop, manage and execute Company meetings and events including the Annual Company Meeting and other leadership meetings, annual fundraising campaigns, Chairman’s Circle Awards, yearly “Holiday Help” store program.


Build trust, leverage partnerships and drive inclusion within the business


Act as internal subject matter expert on event planning and execution


Assist in planning and execution of corporate department meetings, vendor summits or other events as needed.


Develop detailed program plans in advance and communicate them effectively to ensure successful program execution.


Partner with internal and external communication to assist in communication of events (memos, invitations, articles, videos, press releases, etc.).


Manage and implement holistic measurement tools that evaluate effectiveness of programs and events.


Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures and support company mission, values, and standards of ethics and integrity


Other duties as assigned


Position Requirements:
Project management skills and ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities at once, ability to think/act both strategically and tactically

Demonstrated experience in successful event planning work including strategic planning, development of detail project plans and flawless execution of communications tactics that drive positive business results

Ability to effectively partner with executive management, team members and clients; ability to work well with all level of employees is critical

Experience contributing to efforts to nurture and support a strong and effective corporate culture

Some travel required (approximately 5-10%)

Minimum Requirements:


Bachelors degree in communications/journalism, marketing, public relations or related field. Event planning certification a plus.

Minimum 5 years event management communications and experience.

Retail background a plus.

Computer skills (e.g. MS Office programs – Word, Excel, PowerPoint); ability to use technology to ensure consistent and constant communication; SharePoint 2010 experience a plus.

Experience managing large scale events a plus
