Provides platform-wide leadership on focused Foreign Material (FM) initiatives and responses (both proactive and reactive) to assure minimized impact of FM issues to ConAgra Foods Lamb Weston (CAG-LW) and to its customers. This position works collaboratively with RQI, Engineering, Operations, Ag Operations, and Quality / Food Safety staff to insure that CAG-LW is positioned to achieve and maintain Best in Class capabilities to deliver food products to our global customer base that are free of foreign material involvement. The incumbent leads an increased focus of employing of a variety of measures, new & emerging detection, and exclusion technologies, as well as identification and cross-platform implementation of industry best practices. The position will also focus on food safety issues, not related to FM, on an as needed basis.

Position Responsibilities
  • Provides technical input and coordination of efforts to revitalize and energize efforts to identify Best in Class technological innovations that can be cost-effectively employed on LW production lines (including Comanufacturers) to better exclude, detect and remove foreign materials.
  • Seeks cross-enterprise and broader industry input into a documented and formalized set of Best Practices for prevention, detection & removal of foreign material from potato, vegetable and appetizer manufacturing processes, including but not limited to implementation of an FMEA (Failure Mode Effects Analysis) process to identify and reduce risk of FM introduction.
  • Develops a formalized process for responding to incidents of foreign material in processed goods, whether identified and captured at plant level (under CAG-LW control) or reported from customers. This process would include :
  • Create and maintain a decision tree to assist plant staff in training and mentoring all levels of plant employees in executing the most appropriate response to FM incidents in order to minimize inventory scope impacted as well as the financial liability
  • Create and continuously improve a emplate for collection and organization of all pertinent related data into a standardized plant FM incident summary, to the extent feasible
  • Provide review and oversight of all significant FM incidents to 1) insure adequate assessment of risk, 2) partner with plant management in making logical, data-based product dispositions, 3) insure primary consideration of and protection of human health while seeking reasonable inventory recovery whenever safely feasible
  • Responsible for providing technical response documentation for physical harms claims that allegedly resulted from foreign material-related incidents (e.g. dental claims, illness from food, etc.). Direct communication to consumers and customers may be required.
  • Responsible for reviewing all foreign material incidents related to food products manufactured for CAG-LW by co-manufacturer facilities and coordinating professional, technically sound responses.
  • Incumbent will act as the primary CAG-LW Technical Subject Matter Expert in relation to foreign material issues; act as liaison on FM issues with JV partner in Europe (Lamb Weston Meijer).
  • Provides at least annual summaries of foreign material incidents, including trend analysis by product type, and production facility.
  • Collaborates and communicates issues to affected functional groups and business units to ensure regulatory information, interpretations and guidance are developed; ensures that CAG Regulatory & Scientific resources are consulted and efforts are aligned to appropriately address broader compliance issues.
  • Involvement in non-FM related food safety initiatives may be required on a needs basis.

    Position Qualifications
  • B.S. in Ag Engineering, Biological Sciences, Food Science, Chemistry, or related discipline required; M.S. preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 years relevant work experience required, with vegetable / potato processing experience required.
  • Strong skills in problem-solving, proven abilities to interpret diverse data sets in a logical and rational fashion.
  • Working knowledge of food production and process flow dynamics.
  • Excellent communications and organizational skills; proven abilities to successfully engage in influencing and negotiating through complex and sometimes ambiguous situations.
  • Excellent negotiation skills when working through conflict resolution.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products.
